College Football Week 4: #22 Arizona At #3 Oregon

Oklahoma State v Arizona Tennessee Tech v Oregon

#22 Arizona

#3 Oregon

Just because Rich Rodriguez didn’t work out at Michigan didn’t mean he couldn’t coach. We’re only three games into his tenure at Arizona, but the results have been impressive. Coaching This week’s Sports Illustrated focused on speed; naturally, an Oregon football player graced the cover. Both coaches prefer an up-tempo style, but Chip Kelly takes it to another level.
The Wildcats are fourth in the country with 604 yards per game. The main reason is the play of quarterback Mike Scott, who seems like a perfect fit for Rodriguez’s spread attack. Offense The Ducks’ 55 points per game rank fifth in the country. All-purpose speedster De’Anthony Thomas is a touchdown waiting to happen and the most dangerous man on the field.
Rodriguez was wise to bring in defensive coordinator Jeff Casteel. Casteel’s unit, running his signature 3-3-5 scheme, will have its hands full against the explosive Ducks. Defense Oregon has struggled to contain above-average offenses in the past, though it’s hard to judge this year’s unit considering its competition so far.
Senior kicker John Bonano has made 4 of 7 field goals this season, which is representative of Arizona’s special teams play in general this season: uninspiring. Special Teams Thomas is as electric a returner as you’ll ever see. Kicker Rob Beard hasn’t made a field goal yet this year but he’s only had two tries.

The winner is

Tennessee Tech v Oregon
#3 Oregon
4 out of 4

The scoreboard operator should get paid double for this game, as the expected number of total points is around 80. The game shouldn’t be as lopsided as the categorical breakdown suggests, but Oregon, playing at home at night, should have the edge.
