The last five years have bore witness to great change in the landscape of California high school football, as the CIF Bowl Games have reshaped football postseason in the Golden State.
What Happened? Entering last weekend’s State Bowl Games, the South had won 12 of 16 games. They lost four of five in 2010, including the Southern Section losing all three of their games. Last season in the CIF PAC-5 Championship at Angel Stadium, against Edison, Servite embraced the rain. As the underdog, the Friars used the elements as an aide to their first CIF title since 1983.
All season long, Mission Viejo and Servite have been the favorites to make it to Angel Stadium for the PAC-5 Championship. Friday night, the Diablos held up their end of the bargain with a semifinal win over Mater Dei.
