Officials reportedly are calling on a civilian oversight committee to assist the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department as they investigate how deputies could have accidentally shot hostages during two separate standoffs in the last four months.
Over 1,200 residents in Los Angeles were expected to receive checks in the mail starting Tuesday courtesy of the U.S. Postal Inspection Service.
In addition to a special investigator at a cost of $200,000, the department will also start tracking the location of inspectors via their cellphones.
Orange County prosecutors charged Edward Justin LaPorte with felony burglary and misdemeanor counts in the Jan. 31 incident.
