The stage is now set for the first College Football Playoff, and it is going to be fantastic. Unfortunately, somebody had to be left out of the big party, and this year the Big 12 saw not one but two worthy candidates be shutout of the playoff.
Alabama, Oregon, Florida State and Ohio State have been selected to play in the first College Football Playoff.
The College Football Playoff will determine college football’s first national champion in the new playoff model in January, but the real playoff begins this weekend.
Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota looks to be the favorite this season, but Wisconsin running back Melvin Gordon also has a decent shot to win the award. Everybody else may be playing for third place.
As far as numbers go, Rakeem Cato is a very good player, but to make a run to New York, he will have to go on a tear in the second half of the season.

Until Notre Dame proves it can beat one of the elite programs in college football on a grand stage, the overall assessment of Notre Dame will be that it is good, but not good enough. But this season appears to be up for grabs with plenty of surprises still to come. Can Notre Dame offer one more surprise?
As long as Florida State remains in the College Football Playoff conversation, Jameis Winston will be given plenty of opportunities to create his next Heisman moment.
