A firefighter battling the North Fire, a raging inferno that burned through Interstate 15 before moving to Baldy Mesa, is recovering after sustaining second-degree burns in the firefight.

The North Fire started at about 2:30 p.m. near Interstate 15 north of Highway 138, according to a joint statement from San Bernardino County Fire, CALFIRE and the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.
