Craig Herrera joined CBS 2/KCAL 9 in August 2016. Herrera is a seasoned reporter and meteorologist with over 15 years forecasting experience in California. He loves studying the weather, meeting new people and working with animals.
He joined the duopoly from KGTV in San Diego. That’s where he was awarded the Emmy Award for “Best Weathercaster in the Pacific Southwest Region” in 2013 and 2014. His Emmy submissions were titled, “Because it’s not always 72 and sunny in San Diego”. Herrera was also honored with winning the social media voting contest “San Diego’s Favorite Weathercaster 2016”. His weekend evening forecasts helped that weather team win “WeatheRate’s Most Accurate Forecast” two years in a row.
Prior to San Diego, Herrera worked at NBC Bay Area in San Francisco where he served as weekday morning meteorologist. That’s where he won his first Emmy Award with the morning team for “Best Newscast in a Large Market”. He began his on-air experience at KFSN-TV in Fresno, CA and was awarded the American Meteorological Society Seal of Approval for his on-air forecasting skills. But it all started at KDVR-TV in Denver, CO where Herrera was the Weather Producer building computer graphics for his team.
Herrera grew up just a few miles north of Santa Fe, NM in a town called Pojoaque. Spending time in the Los Angeles area almost every summer while growing up, he knew at a young age he wanted to live and work here… this is a dream come true.
Herrera earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of New Mexico and studied meteorology through Mississippi State University.
He’s also a certified indoor cycling instructor. He’s married to his best friend and they have one cat named Mister Clyde and one dog, Cooper.
