Hair Faeries

8250 W. 3rd St.
Suite 202
Los Angeles, CA 90048
(323) 655-6555
More Info

Hair Faeries was one of the first lice removal salons in the LA area. They only provide service on-site and aren't open on Sundays, but the staff is extremely well trained and friendly and PREPARED! With all of their experience in "the biz" they really know how to handle children who may be, shall I say, less comfortable with receiving services. The salon has tons of toys, snacks and individual DVD players for the child being treated. Additionally, the laundry additive they sell to help rid your sheets and clothes of lice smells so wonderful you'll want to use it even when you don't have lice.

For those on the Westside, everyone knows Tipperary is one of the best places to go for kids' hair cuts. But it's a little known fact that Tipperary recently started offering lice removal services. While they don't come to your home, they do have a very private space upstairs at their location on Dayton Way where they provide services confidentially. Great perk: Siblings can play on the awesome video game machines downstairs while they wait.

More Lice Learning

If you've never had lice, and your children have been fortunate enough to have averted this plague to date, I bet the thought of getting lice terrifies you. And it's easy to see why. There are quite a few myths about lice circulating the schoolyard:

Myth: Only dirty people get lice. The fact is, lice actually LOVE clean hair! The cleaner the better!
Myth: Lice jump. According to Shannon Karrigan Owner of Nit Picky "Lice don't fly and they don't jump."
Myth: If you shave the head of the infested person, you solve the problem. This is actually a big fallacy as well. Removing hair from your head does hinder the lice's ability to lay "nits" (the eggs laid by the lice) on the hair shaft, but you need to treat and clean any clothing, materials or bedding that have come into contact with lice within 48 hours prior to treating lice.

Well, as somebody who's been through it, a few times (yes…we have officially had it three times!), I can tell you it's not as bad as you think. Not if you know what to do when you get it.

Fortunately, getting rid of lice is easier than ever. In fact, according to Katie Shepherd, owner of of Hair Angels, "Lice Removal businesses are opening up around town like "cupcake stands." Apparently, lice is big business.

When using lice removal services it's important to remember that if you're not 110% vigilant with your follow-through (i.e. using the right products as instructed by your specialist; washing all linens, cleaning all brushes, treating all stuffed animals, blankets and carpets, upholstery as directed, etc…) even the best lice removal specialist won't be able to help you keep the little buggers from coming back again and again.
