  7. For Josh.. I live in Redondo Beach, on the Esplanade. For the past three nights I have been able to see what look like reflection of Santa Barbara, Anacapa and Santa Cruz Islands. After sunset they look like cloud formations but with binoculars I can tell they are the islands. What anomaly causes this? They are over the horizon from here, I think.

  9. Two questions 1) Is a 1/2" ID glass tube marked in 1/10" an accurate device for measuring rain fall? 2) How do I find an accurate weather station? I live in the Whittier area and have two have two weather stations within 2.5 miles of my house. As of 01/10/2013 I have recorded 3.5" of rain WTCH1 has recorded 2.86". The two stations are 2.32 miles apart and they never agree on temp, wind, pressure or rain. LOCGP rain total is much less and does not display all the time. Last year during February with several days of continuous rain WTCH1 didn't record any rain fall and it was being used as the official weather station for Whittier.
