The “Party Of Five” and “7th Heaven” star was accused of hitting his estranged wife and pulling her hair during an argument over their 5-year-old son in Palm Springs.

London was scheduled to be sentenced Dec. 11 at the Larson Justice Center in Indio. Jury selection is set to begin Tuesday.

Riverside Superior Court Judge Richard A. Erwood ordered the 39-year-old actor — who is free on his own recognizance — to complete 20 anger management sessions before sentencing, according to court records. London was not in court Friday; the plea was entered by his attorney on his behalf, which is allowed in misdemeanor cases.

In January, Riverside County Superior Court Judge B.J. Bjork issued a protective order requiring London to have no contact with the victim, who was identified in court papers only as “Jane Doe.”

She called police the morning of Nov. 18 and claimed that London hurt her when they were outside his car, with their son still in the vehicle.

According to a declaration in support of an arrest warrant, prepared by Palm Springs police Detective Michael Studer, the scuffle happened outside a home in the Mountain Gate complex at 400 Gateway Drive.

Studer wrote that London, who had stayed overnight at the home, put the couple’s son, still wearing pajamas, into his car and told his estranged wife he was taking the boy to breakfast.

“(She) said (their son) was yelling, `I don’t want to go,’ ” Studer wrote.

When she grabbed London’s backpack from his car in attempt to stop them from leaving, “London grabbed her by her hair, pulling her to the ground,” Studer wrote. “… London hit her several times on the side of the head in an attempt to take the backpack away. (She) said eventually she let go of the backpack and got up off the ground to get (the boy) out of the car.”

London left immediately after the altercation, Studer wrote.

In June 2010, London made headlines when he said he was kidnapped and robbed in Palm Springs and forced to buy drugs and alcohol at gunpoint before escaping from his abductors.

In March, one of the men involved pleaded guilty to a felony charge of false imprisonment and a misdemeanor count of unlawful taking of a vehicle. Brian Adams, a 26-year-old Palm Springs man, was sentenced to 16 months in prison, but with time already served and other credits, he was released from a Banning jail the day he entered the plea, according to court records.

Jameson, 38, hit a pole at Springdale Street and Westminster Blvd. at 12:45 a.m., according to the Westminster Police Department.

She reportedly suffered minor injuries, but refused medical treatment.

Jameson was booked on suspicion of DUI before being cited and released.

UNIVERSAL CITY (CBS) — They’re here! “Transformers: The Ride 3D” opened at Universal Studios Friday morning.

The park is calling its new 3D, HD attraction, which features 2,000 feet of track and 14 gigantic screens, “the most ambitious ride ever.”

“Transformers: the Ride 3D is a completely authentic Transformers experience,” park guide Molly Orr said. “Michael Bay, who directed the Transformer films, was one of the creative consultants on this ride. We also worked with ILM, Industrial Light and Magic. They did our special effects for the ride, and they’re the ones who did the special effects for the movies as well, so it’s pretty incredible.”

Last month, an 80-foot, 20-ton decepticon transformer apparently came barreling through the walls of Staples Center on its way to Universal Studios.

Smoke could be seen coming from piles of rubble outside the sports complex as frightened onlookers chanted, “The end is near!”

Park visitors will now finally be able to experience what’s been called “the greatest battle you’ll ever ride.”

WEST HOLLYWOOD (CBS) — One of the busiest bars in West Hollywood has put a ban on bachelorette parties until same-sex couples are allowed to marry.

David Cooley, founder and president of The Abbey Food And Bar, says he gets flooded with requests for bachelorette parties on Fridays and Saturdays.

“I just felt after seeing so many bachelorette parties… having our wonderful straight girlfriends having a special time, a special night, having fun that it’s almost a slap in the face to my clientele. Myself being a gay person a kind of slap in my face that I couldn’t have that same experience,” Cooley said.

“So I thought that I would put a ban on bachelorette parties until every person will have the right to have a marriage and be able to marry their loved one,” he said.

Cooley said the parties flaunt marriage inequality and is asking for other gay and straight bars to support him as well.

“My philosophy at The Abbey is everyone is welcome,” Cooley said, adding  “If you walk through The Abbey right now, you’ll see straight, gay, young, old.”

The country music superstar is giving away 25 mortgage-free houses — one for each stop on his upcoming “Brothers of the Sun” tour with Kenny Chesney — to wounded or needy service members.

McGraw will kick off the campaign with a Memorial Day concert for military members at New York City’s Beacon Theatre during Fleet Week.

“My sister’s a veteran, my uncle’s a veteran, my grandfather was a veteran, one of my best friends is a veteran,” McGraw said in an interview. “I’ve known people my whole life who are in service to America. And I think in my position to be able to do something like that is probably the ultimate thing. So to be able to go on tour and provide sort of a stable foundation for a veteran and their family is something I really look forward to.”

Fans can watch a live stream of the show on YouTube and it also will be available to military bases around the world via The Pentagon Channel website.

According to TimMcGraw.com, one of the stops on the tour will be in Anaheim. (Angels Stadium, July 14, tickets now on sale.)

McGraw is partnering with the charity Operation Homefront and Chase on the program, dubbed HomeFront, with contributions from the Academy of Country Music’s ACM Lifting Lives program and The Premier Group on behalf of the North Carolina Furniture Manufacturers.

The “Brothers of the Sun” tour kicks off June 2 in Tampa, Fla., and runs into August with stops in many of the nation’s largest cities. It’s expected to be one of the biggest tours of the summer and in a historic run for the genre.

McGraw says he’ll debut new music on the tour in preparation for his first album on Big Machine Records. McGraw inked the deal earlier this month, finally ending a long and profitable, but difficult relationship that ended up in court.

That deal was the first in what McGraw hopes is a series of positive developments, and he wants to share those good times with those he’ll be giving houses to this summer.

“It’s going to be a great opportunity to set a family on track that’s done so much for us and my family,” McGraw said. “So I can’t imagine a better thing to do on tour. It’s going to be fun — I mean every tour date we’re going to be out there.”

Attorneys scheduled jury selection and pretrial motions in an appearance today before Riverside County Superior Court Judge Richard A. Erwood at Indio’s Larson Justice Center.

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Elton John was released from a Los Angeles-area hospital Thursday after suffering a serious respiratory infection.

John, who was being treated at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, developed the infection last weekend while performing at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.

“The attending Cedars-Sinai physician recommending that Elton not perform any concerts for approximately seven days with complete rest and antibiotic treatment to cure his respiratory infection and prevent any damage,” Caesar’s Palace said in a statement.

His “The Million Dollar Piano” performances have been cancelled for Thursday, May 24, Saturday, May 25, and Sunday, May 27.

“It feels strange not to be able to perform these ‘Million Dollar Piano’ concerts at The Colosseum,” John said. “I love performing this show and I will be thrilled when we return to The Colosseum in October to complete the eleven concerts soon to be scheduled. All I can say to the fans is sorry I can’t be with you. I hope to see you soon at this wonderful theatre at Caesars Palace.”

Giffords stepped down from her congressional seat to concentrate on her physical rehabilitation. She and eighteen other people were shot during a public meeting held January 8, 2011  in a supermarket parking lot in Casas Adobes, Arizona. Six of the wounded died, including Arizona District Court Chief Judge John Roll; one of Rep. Giffords’ staffers; and Christina-Taylor Green, 9.

This evening, an audience applauded Giffords as she accepted a medal of valor award, for her resilience.

Hand in hand with her husband, astronaut Mark Kelly, Giffords stood in front of a capacity crowd. As the honor was bestowed around her neck, she was told “It is a special honor.”

Kelly was also honored at the national tribute dinner for standing by his wife. “She’s a person that never gives up,” he told reporter Suzie Suh. “She continues to fight just like a lot of the folks here tonight fighting for what they believe in.” And she told the crowd she is a fighter. As her husband held her arm aloft, she said, “Fight, fight, fight.”

And Kelly told Suh his wife continues to make amazing progress every day. “She reminds me all the time to deny the acceptance of failure.”

Other award winners include Elisabeth Mann, a holocaust survivor who was thanked for her leadership.

Film and TV producer Jerry Brukheimer (“CSI”) was given a humanitarian award. “”My mother lost some family in holocaust so this is a very important event for us. This is a great honor for my wife, myself and my family.”

Bruckheimer friend, hockey great Wayne Gretzky said of Bruckheimer, “Jerry is the only guy I know in the world that has a hockey rink in the middle of Louisville. So I go to the Kentucky Derby and play ice hockey on Jerry’s farm. He’s such a wonderful person. He’s done so much for charity.

The Tuskegee Airman also were honored and remembered for their courage.

LOS ANGELES (CBS/AP) — Sharon Stone is being sued by a former nanny who claims the Oscar-nominated actress insulted her Filipino heritage and fired her after discovering she had been paid overtime.

Erlinda T. Elemen filed the lawsuit seeking unspecified damages on Wednesday, 15 months after she was fired. The lawsuit state Elemen worked for Stone for more than four years and was promoted to head nanny, but was fired after the actress demanded she return overtime payments.

Elemen’s complaint states Stone’s accountants made the overtime payments because the nanny worked on vacations and holidays, but Stone did not approve. She claims the actress insulted her accent and also denigrated her religious beliefs.

Rob Schmitt, reporting for CBS2 and KCAL9, spoke to Elemen’s attorney Solomon Gresen.

Gresen maintains that Stone routinely degraded his client for her culture and her religion. He says at one point, Stone told Elemen she wasn’t allowed to read the Bible in Stone’s home.

He also alleged Stone told Elemen she wasn’t allowed to speak in front of Stone’s children so they wouldn’t learn to talk like she did.

Stone’s publicist, Paul Bloch, wrote in a statement that Elemen was a disgruntled former employee and called her claims absurd and fabricated. He also said the former nanny was just trying to make money “any way she could.” Bloch said Stone would be “completely vindicated in court.”

The popular, two-time Emmy-winning actor who plays nerdy, straight-laced Sheldon Cooper acknowledged in a New York Times profile that he is gay and in a long-term relationship.

Parsons, who has starred in “Big Bang Theory” since it debuted in 2007,  is currently starring on Broadway in “The Normal Heart,” an acclaimed play about the AIDS epidemic in 1980′s New York City.

Parsons, 39, is signed to star in the film version of “The Normal Heart,” working opposite “White Collar” and “Magic Mike” actor Matt Bomer who, himself, came out several weeks ago.

Carroll’s son, George Brown, said the actress died Tuesday in New York after a long illness.

Carroll worked steadily since that breakthrough role with Cruise in 1983. Her film credits include “Family Business,” with Sean Connery and Matthew Broderick, and “Memories of Me” with Billy Crystal. On television, in addition to the recurring role on “Melrose Place,” she appeared in such shows as “Murphy Brown” (as Jim Dial’s wife) and “Married With Children” (as Gary.)

Carroll served as artistic director of the jazz series at the Simi Valley Cultural Center in Southern California for many years and performed on tour with the Beverly Hills Unlisted Jazz Band.

A memorial service will be held Saturday in New York City.

The acquisition now makes Wanda the world’s largest movie theater company.

AMC, a Kansas City, Missouri-based company was founded in 1920 by three brothers — Maurice, Barney and Edward Dubinsky.

With 5,325 screens, AMC was the second-largest theater chain in North America. They were second to Regal Entertainment (6,775 screens.)

AMC already had a global reach with theaters in Hong Kong, Spain, France, Canada and the UK.

Wanda also announced the deal included absorbing AMC’s debts and investing an additional $500 million into the merged company.

Wanda made their money from real estate, luxury properties and department stores. They own 86 theaters across China.

With $55.1 million domestically, Disney’s superhero sensation remained No. 1 for a third-straight weekend and took in more than the three big newcomers combined. Overseas, “The Avengers” added an additional $56 million.

The film is approaching the $1.2 billion mark worldwide, totaling $457.1 million domestically and $723.3 million internationally.

“‘The Avengers’ is dominating the marketplace so profoundly that the newcomers are having a tough time breaking in now,” said Paul Dergarabedian, analyst for box-office tracker Hollywood.com.

Universal’s “Battleship” opened a distant No. 2 with $25.4 million domestically, well below industry expectations.

But the board-game adaptation starring Liam Neeson, Taylor Kitsch and Rihanna already has grossed $226.8 million overseas since launching in April, giving it a worldwide total of $252.1 million.

“I would be glad to be No. 2 if we opened to a better number. But given the presence of an absolute juggernaut in the marketplace, there’s nothing you can do,” said Nikki Rocco, head of distribution for Universal. “Not to have a shot at being No. 1 this weekend is disappointing. But it’s a challenge with ‘Avengers’ out there.”

Sacha Baron Cohen’s comedy “The Dictator,” in which he plays a tyrannical third-world leader, debuted in third-place with $17.4 million for the weekend. Since opening Wednesday, the Paramount release has taken in $24.5 million.

“The Dictator” opened with $30.3 million in 29 overseas markets, giving it a worldwide haul of $54.8 million.

Paramount executives said they were happy with that start, but even a movie aiming for laughs had some trouble making in-roads against “The Avengers.”

“This is a full-out comedy, very different than ‘Avengers.’ But when you’ve got a movie that big, it just absolutely sucks up the marketplace,” said Anthony Marcoly, head of international distribution for Paramount. “But it’s also good for the entire business. Hopefully, those that see ‘Avengers’ will go, ‘Hey, I want to see another movie,’ and hopefully, they’ll think of our movie as a next choice.”

Johnny Depp and Tim Burton’s vampire romp “Dark Shadows,” which opened in second-place a week earlier, slipped to No. 4 with $12.8 million. The Warner Bros. release lifted its domestic total to $50.9 million, a weak result compared to the previous Depp-Burton blockbusters “Alice in Wonderland” and “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.”

Lionsgate’s pregnancy comedy “What to Expect When You’re Expecting,” featuring Cameron Diaz and Jennifer Lopez, premiered at No. 5 with $10.5 million.

“The Avengers” and the newcomers were unable to maintain Hollywood’s sizzling start to the summer season. Overall domestic revenues totaled $144 million, down 14 percent from the same weekend last year, when “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” opened with $90.2 million, according to Hollywood.com.

At $1.18 billion worldwide, “The Avengers” climbed to the No. 4 spot on the all-time charts, trailing only “Avatar” ($2.8 billion), “Titanic” ($2.2 billion) and “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2″ ($1.3 billion).

Domestically, “The Avengers” at $457.1 million is No. 6 all-time but will quickly pass “Star Wars: Episode I — The Phantom Menace” ($474.5 million) and the original “Star Wars” ($460.9 million) to take the No. 4 spot.

“Avatar” is No. 1 domestically at $760.5 million, followed by “Titanic” at $658.5 million and “The Dark Knight” at $533.3 million.

Factoring in today’s higher admission prices, many older movies sold more tickets than “The Avengers,” which also has a price advantage because of the extra few dollars it costs to see the 3-D version.

But the Marvel Comics superhero ensemble has proved an overwhelming lure, drawing in all audience segments and packing in some fans who are seeing it over and over.

“It’s a contagious thing that gets not just them back, but their friends back to see it again,” said Dave Hollis, head of distribution for Disney. “I’m always happy to see a friendly competition among friends to see who can see the movie the most times.”

Estimated ticket sales for Friday through Sunday at U.S. and Canadian theaters, according to Hollywood.com. Where available, latest international numbers are also included. Final domestic figures will be released Monday.

The 28-year-old Facebook founder and CEO has wed longtime girlfriend, 27-year-old Priscilla Chan, capping a busy week for the couple. His Facebook profile page showed the two married Saturday and included a photo of the newlyweds.

Zuckerberg took his company public in one of the most anticipated moves in Wall Street history Friday. And Chan graduated from medical school at the University of California, San Francisco, on Monday — the same day Zuckerberg turned 28.

The couple met at Harvard and have been together for more than nine years.

Rose Murphy Stahl, Nick’s wife, filed court papers back in February expressing concerns that he might be using drugs, according to TMZ.com, which was the first to report that the “Terminator 3″ actor had made contact with friends.

On Saturday, she told E! News, “I am so relieved and happy he got in contact and he’s OK.”

Los Angeles police said Rose Murphy Stahl reported him missing on May 14. She had told them that she last saw him a week prior to making the report.

Calls to the LAPD for confirmation were not immediately returned.

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Will Smith, promoting “Men In Black III” in Moscow, smacked a frisky male reporter who he believed tried to kiss him on the lips.

The Ukranian reporter allegedly asked Smith if he could hug him, and Smith said yes. The reporter than plants a few kisses on Smith’s left and right cheeks.

Smith believed the reporter was going for his lips.

Smith breaks from the hug, pushes the reporter off and then smacked him in the face with his hand.

Video of the incident was first posted on celebrity website TMZ.com.

“Come on, man. What the hell’s your problem, buddy,” Smith says before giving the reporter a backhand slap to the face.

After walking down the red carpet, Smith says, “He tried to kiss me on my mouth. Joker’s lucky I didn’t sucker punch him. Oh sorry. I said that on camera.”

TMZ.com said the reporter is known for kissing celebrities. “It’s his schtick,” they reported.

The settlement was reached after mediation and was reported to a federal judge on Monday, records show. The judge has canceled an upcoming trial as attorneys work to finalize settlement documents, and no further details were provided.

Clinton sued the Peas in December 2010, claiming the group used elements of his 1979 song “(Not Just) Knee Deep” in remixes of their international hit “Shut Up.” The song first appeared on the group’s 2003 album “Elephunk,” and it released “Shut Up Remix” the same year. It also was used in another remix included on the deluxe edition of the Peas’ 2009 release, “The E.N.D.,” according to Clinton’s lawsuit.

A judge limited the damages Clinton could recoup in a ruling earlier this month, stating the musician hadn’t shown how much he lost or how much the Peas and Universal profited from using Clinton’s music.

Calls to attorneys for Clinton, members of the Black Eyed Peas and Universal Music Group were not immediately returned.

The group and its label, Universal Music Group, claimed they licensed the music, but Clinton says he never granted permission. He claimed producers tried to license “(Not Just) Knee Deep” in 2009, but he refused. Clinton alleged his signature was forged on a release form later provided to his attorneys and that he has never been paid royalties on the remixes.

The musician previously obtained the rights to his music after suing his label in federal court.

Stuart Lynn Dunn was charged Wednesday with one felony count of each of stalking and stalking in violation of a restraining order.

Dunn was originally arrested in January when he broke into a vacant West Hollywood condominium owned by Kunis, according to police and the District Attorney’s Office. He pleaded no contest in February to a misdemeanor count of unauthorized entry of a dwelling and was ordered to stay away from the 28-year-old actress.

He was arrested again about 11 a.m. May 4 when officers from the Los Angeles Police Department’s Wilshire Division were called to a gym where he had shown up on three consecutive days trying to make contact with the star, according to police and prosecutors.

Prosecutors will recommend that Dunn’s bail be set at $150,000. If convicted as charged, he faces up to four years in prison.

Kunis rose to fame playing Jackie on the comedy “That ’70s Show” before launching a successful film career that has included roles in movies such as “Forgetting Sarah Marshall,” “Max Payne,” “The Book of Eli” and “Friends with Benefits.” She earned a Golden Globe nomination for best supporting actress for her work in “Black Swan.”

Kunis also provides the voice of Meg in the Fox animated comedy “Family Guy.”

The 36-year-old will work as a singer, dancer and host in the Las Vegas production for three weeks in June.

In a statement to The Associated Press on Thursday, Lawrence said screening Channing Tatum’s upcoming film about being a stripper — “Magic Mike” — encouraged him to join the male revue.

Says Lawrence: “I found out that guys like Brad Pitt and Javier Bardem have also done stuff like this and being the fearless guy that I am, I said yes.”

The married father of two stars as a male nanny in the ABC Family series “Melissa & Joey.” He’s best known for his role on the 1990s TV show “Blossom.”

Advance passes general admission and VIP passes went on sale at 10 a.m. for the festival, scheduled for April 12-14 and April 19-21, 2013, according to organizer Goldenvoice.

General admission passes, which cost $349, were gone in less than two hours. VIP passes, $799 each, were sold out shortly after noon, according to organizers.

Both kinds of passes for the second weekend were sold out by about 2 p.m., according to organizers.

VIP and general admission passes were still available as part of Eldorado camping packages. Tent camping for the first and second weekends also sold out.

“The price you see is what you pay — prices reflect all fees included,” according to a statement on Coachella’s Facebook page.

The festival will be held over two consecutive weekends for the second year.

The sale, which goes until May 24, will be the only time the new Coachella Purchase Plan will be offered, organizers said.

The rest of the passes will go on sale early next year, according to organizers. Passes cover either weekend. Some camping, parking and shuttle passes are available.

The festival at the Empire Polo Club in Indio was held over two weekends for the first time this year and sold out quickly.

Police Officer Cleon Joseph confirms a missing persons report was filed this week and the 32-year-old actor hasn’t been found. Stahl’s wife last saw the actor on May 9, according to the Los Angeles Times.

People magazine reports the couple has been embroiled in a child custody fight. According to TMZ, Stahl’s wife filed court papers in February, expressing concerns that the actor may be using drugs. He was reportedly seen recently along the Skid Row section of downtown Los Angeles.

Stahl was a child star who first got attention of his performance in the 1993 film “The Man Without a Face.”

As an adult, he appeared in the 2003-2005 HBO series “Carnivale’” and in 2003′s “Terminator 3″ as John Connor. He also starred in “Mirrors 2″ in 2010.

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — “Queen of Disco” Donna Summer died in Florida Thursday morning after a battle with cancer.

The five-time Grammy Award winner was propelled to fame in the 1970s with hits such as “Hot Stuff”, “Bad Girls” and “Last Dance”.

Her other hits include: “She Works Hard for the Money”, “This Time I Know It’s For Real”, “On The Radio” and “I Feel Love”.

In 1980, she married Brooklyn Dreams singer Bruce Sudano. The couple had two daughters together.

Summer was 63 years old.

LAKE ARROWHEAD (CBS) — In 1986, Thom Bierdz — the actor who plays Phillip Chancellor on “The Young and the Restless — was on top of the world.

He was on the cover of every soap magazine, incredibly popular, beloved by the fans.

Three years later, at the peak of his career, unspeakable real-life tragedy occurred. His brother, Troy, murdered their mother, Phyllis, in his hometown of Kenosha, Wisconsin.

Bierdz recently sat down with CBS2 anchor Pat Harvey — at his “tree house,” a very secluded mountain getaway in Lake Arrowhead, hours away from the hustle and bustle of Hollywood. They talked for hours about his long journey — a journey that also includes forgiving his brother.

“I’ve dealt with some horrible stuff,” says Bierdz.

Younger brother Troy Bierdz murdered their mother in her kitchen, hitting her with a baseball bat. Thom’s brother was diagnosed as a paranoid schizophrenic. It’s all detailed in his harrowing book, “Forgiving Troy.”

His brother wasn’t properly diagnosed for years. He’s currently in prison for the murder. “I was shocked that it happened. I was shocked.” Thom and his siblings were caught off guard. They knew he had problems but nothing could have prepared them for the murder. “I learned later how much he had threatened her. And how much help she tried to get him.”

Getting to a point of forgiveness, obviously, wasn’t easy. “I was angry at my brother for killing. And I was mad at my mother for dying. I knew, there had to be a better picture.”

And that bigger picture, Harvey discovers is in his canvas. For eight years, Bierdz has become a successful artist. While he still acts (Phillip is currently in Australia tending to a busted knee), it’s painting that has become his main occupation and his saving grace. Nature, animals, portraits, straight males portrayed as fictionalized gay couples, his beloved dog — he captures them all in vivid, vibrant colors.

“Painting makes me feel good. I do project after project. It connects me to the now. Now, I’m not too horrified of the past or anxious about the future. That’s what puts me in a good place.”

It took more than 20 years to write “Forgiving Troy.” In the book, he shares feelings of guilt, shame, loneliness. The parts about learning to forgive are especially poignant and moving. “I wanted to show had bad things could go and how good things can go from that.”

For siblings fighting over petty slights, he’s hoping the book can teach people positive messages. And he thinks people can relate, even if they haven’t had unspeakable family tragedy like his. “They get what it’s like to be siblings at odds. They get how it’s like to get mental illness in the family, and how to deal with that. They get what’s it’s like to run away from something.”

Bottom line, he doesn’t want to see people in the kind of pain he’s had to overcome. “My intention is to help people. If I can do that, if I can help people … I love that.”

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Actor Nick Stahl, who portrayed John Connor in “Terminator 3,” has been reported missing.

Stahl’s wife reported him missing on Monday, claiming that she had not seen the 32-year-old actor since last Wednesday, Richard French of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Media Relations office said.

KNX 1070′s John Brooks reports authorities said no foul play was suspected in the actor’s disappearance.

According to TMZ, Stahl’s wife filed court papers in February, expressing concerns that the actor may be using drugs. He was reportedly seen recently along the Skid Row section of downtown Los Angeles.

Stahl’s representative declined to comment on the situation.

CBS will finish the season as America’s most-watched network for the ninth time in the past 10 years, leading in viewers by the widest margin of any network in 23 years.

The superhero blockbuster took in $103.2 million to lead for a second-straight weekend, raising its domestic total to $373.2 million. With $95.4 million more overseas, “The Avengers” lifted its international receipts to $628.9 million for a worldwide haul of just over $1 billion.

The action smash from Disney’s Marvel Studios easily fended off Johnny Depp and Tim Burton’s vampire romp “Dark Shadows,” which had a so-so domestic start of $28.8 million to finish a distant No. 2.

That’s far below such past Depp-Burton collaborations as “Alice in Wonderland,” which opened with $116.1 million, and “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” which debuted with $56.2 million.

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Fifty years after Marilyn Monroe’s death, questions still remain.

“The Kennedys said that they didn’t want to see her anymore. It’s very easy for someone get away with that back in 1962,” said author Jay Margolis, who believes the Kennedys had something to do with her death.

“Marilyn actually overdosed while she was staying here as well,” said Hans Weige, referring to Frank Sinatra’s Lake Tahoe area lodge and casino — the Cal Neva.

Did Monroe take her own life or did someone take it for her?

“Marilyn Monroe was murdered,” Margolis claimed.

New allegations about Monroe’s final hours could rewrite the final scene of her life.

Although she was found dead in the early morning hours of August 5, 1962, in her Brentwood home, there are claims that she spent her final night alive at Frank Sinatra’s Cal Neva.

“This is where the rich and elite use to come and this was their private playground,” said Weige, tour director of Cal Neva.

Weige showed us bungalow 3, where Monroe often stayed.

A trip Monroe made there five days before her death has been well documented, but according to Monroe’s hairstylist George Masters, he accompanied her there the night of August 3rd.

There she reportedly spent time with Sinatra and Mafia boss Sam Giancana, who apparently tried to persuade her one last time not to go public with affairs with JFK and Bobby Kennedy.

Masters claimed that she flew on Sinatra’s private jet home to L.A. that morning and was found dead at her Brentwood home that night.

A coroner later ruled that Monroe died from “probable suicide”.

“She was found without a bra on and she was known to wear a bra at all times, so that raises a lot of eyebrows on maybe if it wasn’t an accident,” Weige said.

After her death a host of conspiracy theories emerged, but Masters made his claims in recently-released recordings made a month before his death in 1998.

He recounted two very distinct trips to the infamous lakeside lair, complete with underground tunnels between cabins that would allow another visit by Monroe to go virtually undetected.

“This type of scenario just sounds like nonsense to me,” said Margolis, the author of the book Marilyn Monroe: A Case for Murder.

Margolis does not buy the fact that Marilyn was at the Cal Neva the night before she died, but he does agree with Masters when it comes to the Kennedy’s being involved in Monroe’s demise.

“There was definitely a vast cover-up, as it relates to Marilyn Monroe’s death,” Margolis said.

They are bold claims, which Margolis says his five years of research and interviews can prove.

Monroe was reportedly found by her doctor nude and lying face down in her bed with sleeping pills nearby.

“There were enough drugs in her to kill about three people, yet there was absolutely nothing in her stomach and that is pretty much the strongest evidence of murder, the fact that there should have been un-dissolved capsules,” Margolis argued.

He and others have suggested that Monroe was intentionally drugged, injected with barbiturates, and that Bobby Kennedy visited her hours before she died.

“Robert Kennedy was present at her house along with two men. The housekeeper, Mrs. Murray, was ordered out of the house along with her son-in-law, who was present,” Margolis said.

He further claims that Monroe’s longtime psychiatrist, Dr. Ralph Greenson, was under pressure from Bobby Kennedy.

“Bobby tricked Greenson into thinking that not only was Marilyn going to reveal the sexual affairs with Jack and Bobby, but Bobby tricked Greenson into thinking that Marilyn Monroe was going to go public with Greenson’s affair also, which was not true,” Margolis claimed.

Police reports and FBI files on Monroe have been lost, destroyed or blacked out. Her diary was missing from her home.

Her publicist later ended up going to work for the Kennedys.

For many the claims are a step closer to the truth.

But we may never know if her final hours were spent at a rat-pack hangout or her Brentwood hacienda, but her death is still as riveting a mystery as anything Hollywood has ever created.

Alpha Lorenzo Walker and co-defendant Tamara Eileen Diaz are accused of threatening to reveal information they claimed would be embarrassing to the entertainer if he didn’t meet their demands, according to Jane Robison of the District Attorney’s Office.

Walker and Diaz, both 38, are charged with a felony count of extortion.

The criminal complaint alleges that the crime occurred May 2, the same day Walker and Diaz were arrested by the Los Angeles Police Department’s Robbery-Homicide Division.

The two — who have pleaded not guilty — remained jailed pending their preliminary hearing, which is scheduled for Wednesday at the downtown Criminal Courts Building.

Suraya Fadel, reporting for CBS2 and KCAL9, says Wonder has made no public statements regarding the arrest or allegations against his nephew.

Fadel went to Diaz’ front door. There, her mother told Fadel “does she know Stevie Wonder? No, she doesn’t.” Diaz’s mother also refused to discuss her daughter’s relationship to, or with, Walker. When pressed for answers, all she would say was, “I am in total distress. I can’t say anything. I do not know anything. I do not wanna say anything.”

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — A controversial new book makes several stunning claims about the Nicole Brown Simpson/Ron Goldman murders in 1994.

Author William Dear, a retired police officer and long-time private investigator, says O.J. didn’t commit the double homicide. “There is still a murderer out there.”

So,  if O.J. didn’t do it…who did?

Dear says Simpson’s son Jason was the culprit. And he says he can prove it. “Jason was never interviewed by the Los Angeles police department.”

The author of “O.J. Is Innocent And I Can Prove It” says Simpson was merely covering for his son. That Jason had an explosive temper, didn’t like Nicole very much and that he was obsessed with knives should have made him a suspect. Police focused on O.J.,, says Dear, in a classic rush to judgement.

He maintains Jason was certainly old enough (he was 24) strong enough (he was 5’11″ and 235 pounds) to kill two people. His book paints the picture of very disturbed young man. “At the time of the murders, he was on probation for assault with a knife.”

Dear also believes he has uncovered the murder weapon — a knife that was never introduced at trial. But a knife he said turned up in a storage facility owned by Jason.

CBS2 and KCAL9 reporter Serene Branson reports about Dear’s stunning claims and his 576-page “true account” of what happened.

He says he’s spent almost a million dollars trying to prove the case against Jason Simpson.

Dear believes O.J, was at the crime scene at some point but that he didn’t participate in the murders. “He was there but after the murder.”

Former O.J. Simpson pal Ron Shipp — a former police officer — believes his friend committed the murders and no one else. When he first heard about Dear’s book, he was stunned. “I thought did you blow a microchip?”

Of the book he says, “There are so many things in there that are wrong. So untrue.”

Branson made numerous attempts to get a comment from Jason Simpson — reportedly now living in Miami and working as a chef — but was unable to reach him.

She also tried to get a statement from the LA DA’s office who said they had “no comment” on the book. O.J. Simpson’s attorney also said he has no comment.

A person familiar with the situation said the Grammy-winning pop star has signed on as a judge for the TV show’s second year. The person was not authorized to publicly discuss details and spoke Thursday on condition of anonymity.

“The X Factor” debuted last fall to ratings that fell short of creator Simon Cowell’s sky-high predictions. The show’s slate was wiped nearly clean in January when judges Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger exited along with host Steve Jones.

That left Cowell and producer Antonio “L.A.” Reid as judges.

Fox declined to comment on Spears or any other cast additions for “The X Factor.”

The 36-year-old comedian has signed on to host the 2012 MTV Movie Awards.

“This MTV Movie Awards will be more impressive than ‘The Avengers,’ and you won’t have to wait an hour for someone to Hulk out,” Brand said Thursday.

After hosting MTV’s Video Music Awards in 2008 and 2009, Brand took on leading roles in films such as “Get Him to the Greek,” ”Arthur” and “Rock of Ages,” which hits theaters next month. This is his first time hosting the MTV Movie Awards.

Executive producer Jesse Ignjatovic, who worked with Brand on the VMAs, calls the actor-comedian “such a brilliant talent.”

“He brings the funny but he also has that rock ‘n’ roll aesthetic,” he said.

The top contenders at the 21st annual MTV Movie Awards are “The Hunger Games” and “Bridesmaids,” which have eight nominations each, including bids for best cast, breakthrough performance and movie of the year. The show also includes offbeat categories such as best kiss, best fight, and best on-screen dirtbag. Fans can select the winners by casting votes online.

Emma Stone, Andrew Garfield, Kristen Stewart, Charlize Theron and Mark Wahlberg are among the stars set to appear at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards, which will be presented June 3 at the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, Calif., and broadcast live on MTV.

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — President Obama is coming to L.A. Thursday for a fundraiser at George Clooney’s house.

The President is scheduled to arrive at LAX around 6 p.m.

A who’s who of Hollywood royalty is expected at Clooney’s residence located near Fryman Canyon in Studio City.

President Obama is expected to take a helicopter to a secret landing zone near Clooney’s house.

Expect road closures up and down Laurel Canyon and on some residential streets through Studio City and environs between 5-8 p.m.

The Clooney fundraiser is expected to add at least $15 million to the Obama re-election war chest.

Commander Andrew Smith is with the LAPD told KNX 1070 NEWSRADIO that if drivers should stay away from the area altogether.

“The hot tip I think would be to avoid the streets around Mr. Clooney’s house, where there’s narrow streets, you can count on it being pretty crowded,” said Smith.

Councilman Paul Krekorian, who represents the Studio City district where Clooney resides, tweeted that residents who live south of Ventura Boulevard, can expect “local access to the area will be virtually sealed off from about 8-10 p.m. All local residents will need to show a current photo ID for home access.”

Krekorian said police are advising residents in the Fryman Canyon area to stay home or “make other arrangements for the day.” And he wrote, “there could be instances when you may be rerouted if you live in the region.”

With as many as 150 Hollywood stars and big wigs coming to the area, the Los Angeles Daily News said “Neighbors brace for starmageddon.”

The president is scheduled to stay overnight in Beverly Hills.

A September 2011 Obama visit tied up traffic on the west side for hours. A follow-up fundraising trip in February 2012 was well-coordinated and organizers said there were no major problems reported.

Far better known as the cop in the novelty disco act the Village People, Willis is also remembered for a number of drug-related troubles in the early 2000s that nearly up-ended his post-Village People days. He was also briefly married to Phylicia Rashad of “The Cosby Show.”

Yet there he was this week, being mentioned in the same breath as Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen, after he won a court battle to claim at least a third of the copyrights for such songs as “Macho Man,” ”Y.M.C.A.” and “In the Navy” that he co-wrote for his old group.

The former “Macho Man,” who says he has a new album titled “Solo Man” coming out in a few weeks, declined to say what kind of payday he expects Monday’s ruling by U.S. District Judge Barry Moskowitz to bring him.

“But those songs, they gross millions a year, so it could be a significant thing,” he noted with a chuckle.

Willis was a musician-actor who, among other things, had appeared on Broadway in “The Wiz” when Jacques Moreli decided to cash in on the disco craze in 1977 by putting together a group made up of beefy, macho-looking guys dressed as a biker, a construction worker, a cop, a cowboy and an Indian chief.

Willis, who was the group’s lead singer, was soon dancing up a storm with his cohorts to catchy beats while disco balls glittered and music blared around the country and in Europe.

The Village People sold tens of millions of records in the 1970s, and Willis co-wrote all the big hits. But he also signed away his copyrights to the songs for a cut of the profits that today ranges from 12 to 20 percent.

“I was very young and naive,” he said by phone from New York on Thursday. “I didn’t know at that point what I was going to be giving away. So If they put a contract in front of me, I signed it.”

He said he suspects many other young artists did as well, and he hopes his court victory this week will eventually benefit them, too.

When Congress updated federal copyright law in 1978, it allowed songwriters to reclaim such signed-away copyrights after 35 years. That’s something that over time is expected to affect the rights to songs by Dylan, Springsteen, Tom Petty, Billy Joel and others.

After Willis sought to get the copyrights to 33 songs back, the owners, Can’t Stop Productions and Scorpio Music, sued to stop him, arguing that he was simply a “worker for hire” for the Village People and therefore had no stake in the songs. They also argued that because his co-writers didn’t join him in seeking their share of the copyrights Willis shouldn’t be granted his share either.

The companies dropped the “worker for hire” argument before Moskowitz issued his ruling Monday. The ruling determined that Willis didn’t need to join with the others.

Still to be determined is just how much of the copyrights he’ll control, one third or one half. His co-writers are credited as Moreli and Henri Belolo, although Willis says he and Moreli really wrote the songs.

“Belolo didn’t write anything. He was just the publisher,” he said, adding he’s confident that means the court will give him 50 percent.

The music publishers’ attorney, Stewart Levy, disagrees, saying he expects Willis will get no more than a third, which he maintains isn’t much more lucrative than the 20 percent he gets these days for “Y.M.C.A.”

“We’re disappointed of course but we don’t think it’s as big a deal as everyone is making it out to be,” he said of Monday’s ruling.

Willis’ attorney, Brian Caplan said the case is the first addressing the rights of songwriters to terminate agreements they signed decades ago, and as such, lays the legal groundwork for others who seek to reclaim their copyrights.

That could open “a tremendous can of worms” for the music industry, said Mark Volman, coordinator of the Entertainment Industry Studies program and an assistant professor at Belmont University in Tennessee.

“It would be a tremendous win (for songwriters) to get something like that in place,” said Volman, who as a founding member of the 1960s group the Turtles fought his own share of battles over royalty rights signed away.

As for Willis, he’s looking to getting on with his career.

After vocal cord surgery in 2008, and a series of arrests on drug-related charges in the mid-2000s that resulted in a stint in rehab, he says his life has turned around in recent years.

“Life is fine. I went through whatever I went through, but everything is going great now,” he said.

The awards — for excellence in daytime dramas, talk, children’s, game and food programming — will be presented Saturday June 23rd at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. The show remains without a broadcast outlet.

ABC had the most nominations with 55, including nominations for the canceled soaps “All My Children” and “One Life to Live.”  CBS daytime had 32 nods.

BEL AIR (CBS) — Legendary hair stylist Vidal Sassoon died Wednesday morning in his Bel Air home at the age of 84.

KNX 1070′s Claudia Peschiutta reports LAPD Commander Andrew Smith said police were dispatched to Sassoon’s home in the 1500 block of Mulholland Drive around 10:30 a.m.

“When they got there, they were met by family members who confirmed that Mr. Sassoon had passed away of natural causes,” said Smith.

Sassoon is credited with creating the famous “bob” haircut and promoted the “wash and wear” philosophy for women’s hair styling.

In June of last year, news broke that he had been diagnosed with leukemia in 2009. His official cause of death is unknown.

Sassoon was born on Jan. 17, 1928 in London. He is survived by his fourth wife Rhonda C. Sassoon and four children from another marriage.

“When I first came into hair, women were coming in and you’d place a hat on their hair and you’d dress their hair around it,” Sassoon told the Los Angeles Times in a 1999 interview. “We learned to put discipline in the haircuts by using actual geometry, actual architectural shapes and bone structure. The cut had to be perfect and layered beautifully, so that when a woman shook it, it just fell back in.”

After expanding throughout England, he brought his growing empire to the United States in the 1970s, and his line of hair and styling products surged thanks in part to their catchy slogan, “If you don’t look good, we don’t look good.”

He later created a foundation dedicated to various charitable causes.

There was no immediate word on funeral arrangements.

STUDIO CITY (CBS) — Craig Ferguson of “The Late Late Show” visited KCAL9 Wednesday to talk about next week’s special episodes, which were filmed in Scotland.

“The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson in Scotland” will air Monday, May 14, through Friday, May 18, from 12:37 a.m. to 1:37 a.m. on CBS2.

He will be joined by actors Mila Kunis, Michael Clarke Duncan and Rashida Jones, renowned author David Sedaris and “Flying Wild Alaska” star Ariel Tweto .

Ferguson also explores Edinburgh, Glasgow, his hometown of Cumbernauld, and the historic city of Arbroath. Along the way, he visits Edinburgh Castle, The Royal Mile, Calton Hill, Glamis Castle and Kelvingrove Art Gallery, as well as his childhood home and high school.

“The Late Late Show” continues to be the only late night talk show to travel internationally

This marks the second international trip for the show, following “Le Late Late Show Avec Craig Ferguson”, which filmed in Paris and aired in August 2011.

Stuart Dunn, 27, was arrested about 11 a.m. Friday when police from the Los Angeles Police Department’s Wilshire Division were called to a gym where he had allegedly shown up three times trying to make contact with the star.

Dunn was also arrested in January after allegedly breaking into Kunis’ West Hollywood apartment, and was the subject of a protective order restricting him from any attempt to contact the 29-year-old actress, according to the LAPD.

Kunis, whose big break came on the television series `That ’70s Show,” has more recently been seen in the movies “Black Swan” and “Friends with Benefits.”
