Irvine-based Regeneca said Saturday it will voluntarily pull RegenArouse after a Food and Drug Administration analysis confirmed the presence of Tadafil.

Tadalafil is an FDA-approved drug used as treatment for male erectile dysfunction. It is not listed among RegenArouse’s ingredients.

For some users, Tadafil could interact with nitrates found in some prescription drugs and lower blood pressure to dangerous levels.

On its web site, RegenArouse is billed as an all-natural, drug-free intimacy enhancer for women.

Regeneca has distributed the supplement in the U.S. and Puerto Rico via the internet since November 2011.

Consumers can return any unused product for an exchange or a full refund.

KNX 1070′s Ed Mertz reports Supervisor Mike Antonovich said Brown has “failed” taxpayers both locally and statewide.

“He’s failed to provide the structural reforms at the state level that would save dollars,” said Antonovich.

The former Assembly member said that despite Brown’s pleas to the contrary, Sacramento does have the funds to bolster the county’s fiscal health.

“But the governor all he does is continue to spend,” Antonovich said.

His remarks comes as the Board of Supervisors is warned the state will not reimburse the county for as much as $8.5 million in spending for state mandated programs that include absentee ballots and maintaining a sex offender registry.

But Antonovich said any suggestion that county officials can fix the situation themselves is unrealistic.

“The county does not print money,” he said. “The county is dependent upon the state to make responsible decisions.”

The Board of Supervisors is expected to decide within the next several weeks whether to fund the services itself.

NORTH HOLLYWOOD (CBS) — You may have noticed the lines wrapped around Target stores this weekend – fashionistas all vying to get their hands on Jason Wu’s new collection made especially for the giant retail chain.

The celebrated designer’s vintage-inspired pieces are usually expensive. But Target shoppers are thrilled to find they could get their hands on a Wu dress for just $34.99 and a blouse for $19.99.

“You can get a whole outfit for as much as you pay for a shirt at a boutique,” said one customer at a North Hollywood Target store.

When Missoni released their designs for Target shoppers inundated the website to the point that the site crashed, and was down for several hours.

When these much-anticipated lines make their Target debut some people arrive when doors open to ransack the inventory and, then, sell the items at jacked-up prices on online commerce sites such as eBay.

That leaves many customers empty-handed when they tried to get a piece for themselves.

Ana Ledezma was disappointed to find slim pickings when she came to shop the Wu wardrobe at a Target in North Hollywood. An employee there tells CBS2 that one woman bought $600 worth of the collection over the weekend.

“They’ve taken everything,” one customer griped at a Target store this weekend when the Wu collection was released.

A couple at a Target store in Miami reportedly cleaned out the entire collection in minutes.

Target has had enough.

The company is accusing customers of hoarding and wants the trend to stop.

Jason Wu was not available for comment but a spokesperson for Target told the Wallstreet Journal, “the company was ‘disappointed’ there was so much hoarding.”

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Protesters with the “Occupy L.A.” movement rallied on Friday at a bank in downtown Los Angeles to call for banks to temporarily halt all foreclosure proceedings nationwide.

Activists held signs and gathered along the steps of the Wells Fargo bank branch on West Olympic Boulevard against the state attorney general’s recent decision to back out of negotiations to settle with the nation’s biggest mortgage lenders over deceptive mortgage and foreclosure practices.

The group is calling upon Attorney General Kamala Harris to force Wells Fargo and other banks to impose moratoriums on “all foreclosures until full investigations into lending institutions’ policies and practices are pursued showing the extent of fraud on innocent homeowners”.

Harris recently ended California’s role in negotiations after calling the banks’ current settlement offer “inadequate for California”.

Friday was the final business day to come to an agreement on the nationwide settlement.

The protest comes as Wells Fargo held a workshop Friday to help would-be homebuyers qualify for a mortgage in order to reduce its inventory of unsold homes.

Many Occupy LA members agreed with Harris’ stance on the negotiations and criticized the $25 billion split between five separate banks that falls “short of expectations of accountability and consequence”.

“We call on Harris to continue to represent the people’s interests over lenders’,” said Carlos Marroquin, a Occupy activist and homeowner advocate. “Also, we call on Wells Fargo to do the right thing for homeowners.”

A handful of the group’s activists will take the unprecedented step on Monday of meeting directly with Wells Fargo officials to discuss the bank’s foreclosure practices and other concerns.

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Wells Fargo & Company is launching a new program that will work alongside nonprofit organizations to help potential homebuyers in Los Angeles.

Neighborhood LIFT is getting its start in Los Angeles, where the company will help the city combat its high inventory of unsold homes by attracting prospective buyers.

The program will set aside $10 billion over five years to help with home mortgages. Another $15 million will help potential buyers with their down payments, which will average out to $30,000 per home.

Neighborhood LIFT kicks off with a two-day event at the Los Angeles Convention Center on Feb. 3 and Feb. 4.

Down payment assistance, home and renovation financing, homebuyer education sessions, and tours of residential properties will all be available for prospective homebuyers.

KNX 1070′s John Brooks reports a new survey on Thursday showed some of the nation’s most recognizable brands have stepped up hiring in the Los Angeles area.

CareerBuilder.com found as many as 38,000 job openings at Time Warner Cable, T-Mobile, and Starbucks and seven other major companies.

Starbucks has plans to hire over 13,000 workers in the coming weeks, and while some may turn their nose up at the prospect of working for the gourmet coffee chain, some said there are much worse options in this job market.

“I would start work at 4 a.m.,” said one former employee. “It was cool, it kept me busy and I made some friends from it.”

Despite the perks of early hours and all-you-can-drink java, there are some occupational hazards in working with steaming hot liquids, as one San Diego barista discovered when she was scalded by a patron after she gave him a free cup of hot water.

While the unemployment rate remains in double digits in Los Angeles, the increased number of job openings give those looking for work more industries and job types from which to choose, the survey said.

Jobless applications also fell last week in what some analysts said might be a sign that companies are ready to start hiring again.

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — An investment firm hired to manage the public pension for city workers in Los Angeles mismanaged the fund and cost taxpayers nearly $100 million, according to a lawsuit announced Thursday.

In the lawsuit, City Attorney Carmen Trutanich accused the Northern Trust Corporation of “institutional deception” when the firm invested pension funds in high-risked mortgage-backed securities.

The suit also says that Pension Consulting Alliance, Inc., a firm hired to oversee the investments, failed to warn the city about possible risks.

“The fraud that happens on Wall Street truly affects Main Street,” Trutanich said. “Here it affected the 43,000 pensioners in the Los Angeles City Employee Retirement System.”

“We lost $95 million,” he added.

According to the lawsuit, Northern Trust engaged in unlawful business practices and violated the False Claims Act.

Trutanich will officially announce the lawsuit on Thursday.

Northern Trust could not be reached for comment.

KNX 1070′s Ron Kilgore reports Controller John Chiang is sounding the fiscal alarm in Sacramento.

The state Assembly budget committee is considering a bill to borrow $865 million to pay down some of the state’s debt, but Chiang warned lawmakers may need a lot more than that.

“We’ve been out of money since July 13, 2007,” said Chiang. “The state’s been operating on borrowed money.”

Chiang estimated lawmakers would need to come up with $3 billion or the state could run out of operating cash by early March.

Overly-optimistic revenue projections and overspending in key sectors like education and health care have put the state in a precarious position.

Tax revenues have fallen short by over $2 billion less than what Governor Brown and state lawmakers expected last year.

“The pace of spending was greater than had been budgeted,” Chiang said. “If they spend accordingly and don’t spend more, then we should recover those revenues at the end of the year.”

Among the short-term steps proposed by the controller’s office: delaying some payments and shifting cash around through various state funds.

In 2009, then-Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger requested an emergency cash infusion from the TARP program to fund over $13 billion in short-term loans.

KNX 1070′s Vytas Safronikas reports City Councilman Ara Najarian is leading the effort to crack down on signs that violate city codes so residents and visitors alike won’t have to tolerate “something you see in East L.A.”

The city has an estimated 609 oversized signs as high as 25 feet and with surface areas up to 200 square feet, according to the Los Angeles Times — in clear violation of the height limits between 6 to 8 feet and surface area restrictions to as big as 75 square feet.

Najarian told KNX 1070 the move is all about making the city’s skyline more uniform in appearance.

“We’ve got little cheesy signs lit by flourescent tubes versus great huge fast-food signs, and we’d like to bring them more into conformity,” Najarian said.

The city council has ordered staffers to come up with a plan to enforce the measure and convince any potential violators to remove their signs.

Under the current proposal, local businesses would be allowed around two years to replace their signs with ones that are up to city code.

AZUSA (CBS) — A proposal by California transportation officials to cut spending is drawing heavy criticism from Southland business owners.

KNX 1070′s Ed Mertz reports Caltrans has threatened to closed down a stretch of Highway 39 that runs north of Azusa into the San Gabriel mountains.

Adam Samrah, a Turkish immigrant who invested his life’s savings when he bought the Crystal Lake Cafe and Trading Post, said he has suffered physically from the stress of wondering if Caltrans will go through with its plans.

“I told them it’s not fair the way you’re doing things and I’m getting sick,” said Samrah. “I have two kids to raise, family…I don’t know what to do anymore.”

Caltrans said it may have no choice but to close down Highway 39 after the U.S. Forest Service and L.A. County rejected efforts to take it over.

The state agency is trying to unload the highway to save the $1.5 million it costs every year to repair and maintain the road that spans two sections over 27 miles from Asuza into the San Gabriel Mountains.

But for Samrah, Caltrans’ treatment of the roadway is not at all his vision of the American dream.

“It reminds me like a third world country,” he said. “I came from them and I hate them, that’s why I came to America.”

A proposed $45 million restoration project that was slated to start in fall 2010 remains outlined on the Caltrans website, but those plans have now been suspended as the state mulls its options.

Samrah and other local business owners, however, have a far different stance on who is responsible for the road.

“I feel this is their highway, their road, and they should maintain it,” he said.

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Customers who have long enjoyed plunking down a dime for a cup of morning Joe will soon have to dig a little deeper in their pockets.

Philippe’s, a landmark sandwich shop in downtown LA will start charging 400 percent more for coffee starting Feb. 2.

For 35 years, Philippe’s has sold coffee for 9 cents per cup — 10 cents with tax — but that price will jump to 50 cents including sales tax.

CBS2′s Kirk Hawkins reports the new prices are unlikely to end what’s been a morning tradition for countless customers like Enrique Zeiss.

“You can’t beat the price,” said Zeiss. “10 cents? Where else can you pay 10 cents for a cup of coffee?”

The increase comes as the shop famous for its French dip sandwiches struggles to keep pace with rising supply costs — an economic reality that fourth generation owner Mark Masengill said cost him a lot of sleepless nights.

“”I would definitely think about it when I was getting ready to go to bed,” said Masengill.

Despite the price hike, Philippe’s still offers its brew for much less than gourmet coffee chains such as Starbucks and Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, where prices start at $1.85 plus tax for a cup of regular coffee.

ONTARIO (CBS) — The Neighborhood Assistance Corporation of America was in Ontario Thursday to help both struggling homeowners and prospective home buyers.

Dozens of local residents lined up outside the Ontario Convention Center as early as 12 a.m. to secure a spot at NACA’s American Dream Tour.

Hundreds of lenders, investors, counselors and underwriters will be on hand throughout the weekend to help with both new mortgages and loan modifications.

NACA officials say the free event will help buyers who otherwise could not qualify for loans.

CBS2′s Kara Finnstrom spoke with one attendee who says NACA has helped him before.

“The first go around was great,” Paul Rodelo said. “They gave me a three percent fixed interest rate on my loan. I’m here today to hopefully get a principal reduction.”

The magazine (www.forbes.com/nba) said Wednesday that the Lakers’ value had increased 40 percent since last year to $900 million thanks to its blockbuster Time Warner TV deal that is 30-years, $3 billion. The Knicks’ value increased 19 percent to $780 million with a boost from the renovation of Madison Square Garden. The Chicago Bulls, Dallas Mavericks and Boston Celtics round out the top five.

Despite a shortened season, the average team is worth $393 million, up 6.5 percent from last year, aided by the new collective bargaining agreement.

The Milwaukee Bucks are the least valuable team at $268 million.

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — The number of tourists who visited Los Angeles went up in 2011, a 4.2 percent increase over 2010, and those visitors spent an estimated $15.2 billion.

LA Inc. head Mark Liberman says the rise represented “impressive growth” and good news for businesses that depend on tourist business.

The increase meant more bookings at hotels, more people eating at restaurants and flocking to the city’s attractions and cultural institutions, he said.

“This is significant for the LA economy, as one of out of 10 jobs are related to tourism and the industry employs 364,000 persons.”

The numbers also show more international tourists visiting than in 2010. About 5.9 million international visitors spent about $5.5 billion in 2011, a 12 percent increase in spending.

Among the foreign tourists, Australians were the biggest group, but 25 percent more tourists from China made up the largest year-over-year increase. American Airlines and United Airlines began service from Shanghai to LAX in April and May. Air China added a second flight from LAX to Beijing in September.

Tourists from Canada and Mexico increased by 13 percent and 4 percent, respectively. In 2011, 675,000 Canadians visited LA, a record high in volume for Canadian visitors to the city of Angels.

The board’s subcommittee on presidential pay on Wednesday approved the new policy, which will be voted on by the full board later in the day.

The policy will cap salaries at $325,000 or raise the salary by no more than 10 percent of the pay received by the outgoing president.

The move comes after a bill was introduced last year in the state Senate to limit presidents’ salaries after the board gave a $100,000 raise to the new president of San Diego State University in the same meeting in which it approved a 12 percent tuition hike.

NORTH HOLLYWOOD (CBS) — A slumping housing market in the San Fernando Valley could soon get a much-needed boost from a proposal by President Barack Obama to make it easier for struggling homeowners to refinance their mortgages.

KNX 1070′s John Brooks reports even new home buyers are few and far between as prices continue to plummet.

Home prices fell another 7 percent in 2011, while home sales also dropped 7 percent — almost down to the record low seen in 2007 — according to the Southland Regional Association of Realtors.

Condo sales didn’t fare much better: sales inched up about 1 percent last year as the median price for condominiums tumbled to $219,000.

Some buyers have skirted the increasingly stringent lending process altogether and purchasing their home the old-fashioned way.

“I only know one friend that’s bought a new anything in the last three years, and she saved up for that for quite a while, and she paid it all cash,” said one resident.

Homeowners who are facing a sharp adjustment in their mortgage payments are still holding out hope that Obama can convince Congress to pass a nationwide program that would allow qualifying homeowners to refinance at lower interest rates.

“I think that’ll help, because my mortgage is going to become adjustable in three years and I don’t have any choice because it’s through Wells Fargo,” said another man.

Wells Fargo announced a new $10 billion program aimed at stabilizing underwater mortgages and helping  potential buyers with their down payments.

The president’s plan would allow all homeowners who are current in their payments to take advantage of rates 4 per cent or below, potentially saving them as much as $3,000 every year.

ONTARIO (CBS) — The city of Ontario is making a $50 million bid to take back its airport, which has been owned and operated by the group that runs LAX for more than 25 years.

Ontario International Airport has lost a third of its passengers since 2007, and some say Los Angeles World Airports has neglected the struggling airport.

Late last year, Republican Reps. Jerry Lewis of Redlands and Ken Calvert of Corona, who are concerned about the airport’s future, sent a letter to both U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood and Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa.

They claim flights have been cut in half over the last four years, which has caused the decline in passengers.

They also say 8,000 airport-related jobs have been lost and blame LAX World Airports for higher fees and more expensive fares in Ontario.

Officials with the city of Los Angeles say they do not intend to sell the airport for a “foreclosure price” and will keep the airport for at least two more years.

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Airport officials joined Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa on Tuesday for a “hard hat tour” of a $1.42 billion renovation project at LAX.

KNX 1070′s Ed Mertz reports the tour of the Tom Bradley International Terminal came as construction approached the halfway mark.

An estimated $4.1 billion overall will be invested in the airport, Villaraigosa said as he guided a group of Los Angeles World Airports officials inside the steel ribs and corrugated skin which make up the structure.

The mayor highlighted the proposed 18 brand new gates to handle the next generation of huge airplanes, half of which will be capable loading and unloading the new A380 Airbus — a capability that Villaraigosa said would make LAX the first in the nation to do so.

He also pointed to the need for the aging airport to be able to meet the demands of more frequent international flights.

“Each daily nonstop international flight generates $621 million to the LA economy and 3,100 jobs,” Villaraigosa said.

Qantas is expected to being using the new Bradley terminal starting in September, while the entire terminal is slated to open by March of 2013.

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — The Disney Wonder will cruise out of the Port of Los Angeles later this year to launch a new series of trips from Miami.

The 964-foot ocean liner came here last year as part of a two-year deal, but Disney canceled the Wonder’s last four Mexican Rivera cruises from Los Angeles.

Officials say the cruise industry has suffered because of drug cartel violence in Mexico, and most recently, as a result of the Costa Concordia tragedy.

Beginning in December, the Disney Wonder will offer four- and five-night cruises from Miami to the Bahamas and the Western Caribbean.

Officials from the Port of Los Angeles have not commented on the ship’s big move.

KNX 1070′s Kim Marriner reports the culprits were likely after a suddenly hot commodity: copper wiring.

Earlier this month, Palmdale sheriff’s deputies responded to reports of a burglary at the Rialto Concrete Products Plant located on East Avenue T.

“They discovered the suspects entered the property through a cut chain-link fence and stripped over 20 electrical boxes inside the plant,” said Sgt. Pauline Panis.

Detectives said they have seen a sharp jump in this type of crime as the copper core inside wiring commonly used for industrial buildings has become a frequent target for thieves.

The concrete company estimated the cost to repair the damage from the theft at over $100,000.

Starting on Feb. 3, male staffers will be allowed to sport facial hair while working for the first time in 60 years, according to Inside the Magic, a blog that covers all-things Disney.

The new grooming rule applies to most costumed and non-costumed employees.

“As with mustaches, all facial hair (beards, goatees, mustaches) must create an overall neat, polished and professional look and must be fully grown in, neatly groomed and well-maintained at no longer than a quarter of an inch in length,” Disney said in a company notice.

Previously, the company barred cast members from growing beards and goatees to preserve the “Disney Look.”

Cast members without facial hair are still expected to be clean-shaven every day.

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Airport workers staged a rally at LAX on Monday to protest what they said is a decision by their employer to cancel their contract and take away their health benefits.

The protesters, who are represented by the Service Employees International Union, are employed by Aviation Safeguards, a contractor that
supplies passenger-services workers at LAX.

They provide some security services, move bags from security checkpoints to luggage vehicles and offer wheelchair and other escort services.

The rally was prompted by a recent announcement by Aviation Safeguards that it “is terminating its contract with employees and as a
result, workers will lose their health care benefits on Feb. 1,” the Good Jobs LA coalition said in a statement.

Neither the contractor nor its parent company could immediately be reached to comment on the reported contract cancellation.

“Aviation Safeguards is leading a race to the bottom by the greediest 1 percent at LAX to make even bigger profits by breaking agreements with workers and taking away health care,” said Mike Garcia, president of SEIU United Service Workers.

Some of Aviation Safeguards’ top clients at LAX include Virgin Atlantic, United Continental, Air France, and Alaska Airlines.

The Dodgers filed their plan Friday in bankruptcy court in Delaware, saying the sale of the team should satisfy all creditor claims in full, either through cash payments or assumption of the claims by the new owners.

The team is asking for a Feb. 22 court hearing for court approval of the statement outlining the reorganization plan and the process for creditors to vote on it.

The Dodgers sought bankruptcy protection in June after baseball Commissioner Bud Selig rejected a new TV deal with Fox that team owner Frank McCourt was counting on in order to make payroll and keep the franchise solvent.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Los Angeles County consultant hired to study the proposed incorporation of East Los Angeles recommends that the county reject the idea.

In a 459-page report to be released next week, Economic & Planning Systems says a proposed City of East Los Angeles would not be able to financially support itself.

The report says the state controller also agreed, finding that cityhood proponents underestimated law enforcement costs by $10 million.

The county commission charged with approving city formation is scheduled to hold a public hearing and take a vote on the proposal next Wednesday.

East Los Angeles Residents Association President Benjamin Cardenas says he has requested the commission delay the vote for four months to investigate new sources of revenue, including asking voters to approve a utility tax.
