40-Acre Brush Fire Spurs Evacuation Of Six Flags Magic Mountain In Valencia

VALENCIA (CBSLA) — A brush fire erupted in Valencia around noon Sunday spurring the evacuation of Six Flags Magic Mountain, authorities reported.

The 40-acre Sky fire burned in light brush along Old Road and Sky View Lane. As of 3:30 p.m., it was 20 percent contained.

No homes were threatened but as a precaution, the popular amusement park was evacuated.

Desmond Shaw, reporting in Sky2, said the fire got as close as the Six Flags parking lot.

"It was definitely a scary situation for people at the park," he said.

The park is going to remain closed until 10 a.m. Monday. People who were evacuated Sunday will be offered tickets to return.

CBS2's Cristy Fajardo reported from the location. Around 5 p.m., she reported that the fire was effectively out "but there's still a lot of smoke in the air but we don't see any active flames."

Firefighters remains on scene to jump on potential hot spots.

No injuries were reported but a dozen people were treated for smoke inhalation.
