Break-In At Long Beach Home Being Fumigated Leads To Standoff

LONG BEACH (CBSLA) — A break-in at a fumigated home in Long Beach turned into a standoff with police.

The owners of the home in the 100 block of East 35th Street called police at about 2:30 a.m. to say they saw, through their home security camera, people inside their home, Long Beach police spokeswoman Arantxa Chavarria said.

A "male juvenile" came out of the tented home shortly after officers arrived and was the first to be taken into custody.

Police surrounded the home and summoned its SWAT team, which entered the home at about 9:50 a.m. to search the property, she said. Two more suspects were arrested at that point, with the help of a police dog.

All three suspects were taken to a hospital for possible exposure to chemicals used in the fumigation process.

Their names were not released.
