LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Major League Baseball’s All-Star Week is in full swing in Miami, where MLB commissioner Rob Manfred named Mexico City as one of several possible MLB expansion destinations.
Speaking at an All-Star Week press conference, Manfred named Montreal and Charlotte as two other potential expansion markets.
“I know the mayor of Montreal has been very vocal about bringing baseball back to Montreal. It was not great when the Expos left. The fact of the matter was baseball was successful in Montreal for a very long time. Charlotte is a possibility. And I would like to think that Mexico City or some place in Mexico would be another possibility.”
The last time the MLB expanded was back in 1998 with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays and Arizona Diamondbacks.
