CASTAIC (CBSLA.com) – State health officials have issued a health alert at Pyramid Lake near Castaic, declaring an algae bloom there is reaching dangerous levels.

The swim beach at the Vaquero day-use area is closed and warning signs have been posted.

Exposure to the algae can cause rashes, mouth ulcers, eye irritation and flu-like symptoms.

The other swim area at Pyramid Lake remains open.
