Big Rig Bursts Into Flames After Slamming Into Bus Full Of Cheerleaders

INDIO (CBSLA.com) — A big rig caught fire Wednesday on the 10 freeway east of Palm Springs after an accident with a bus full of cheerleaders from Arizona, causing heavy traffic for hours.

Forty girls with the California All Stars were heading home to Phoenix after participating in a gym camp at UCLA.

Video shows the back of the tour bus smashed in. The cheerleaders' coach said the big rig rear-ended the bus carrying the girls. The CHP is investigating the cause of the accident.

Three girls were taken to a hospital with minor injuries. The coach was working on getting the team back home safely.

According to the CHP, the big rig driver survived.
