Overturned Truck Spills Fuel, Turns 101 Fwy Into Parking Lot

VALLEY VILLAGE (CBSLA.com) – A cement truck overturned on the westbound 101 Freeway in Valley Village Saturday morning, shutting down that side of the freeway for nearly four hours.

The rollover occurred at 9:22 a.m. on the westbound side of the 101 Freeway at Laurel Canyon Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The truck spilled about 75 gallons of fuel, some of which dripped into a nearby storm drain before firefighters were able were able to contain it.

No major injuries were reported. The driver of the truck suffered some scrapes and bruises.

A Sig Alert was issued and the westbound side of the freeway was shut down. It reopened at around 2:15 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.

The cause of the rollover was not immediately confirmed.

One couple told CBS 2's Brittney Hopper it took them three hours to go six miles.

Another driver told her "it was craziness. It was just like a parking lot."
