Man Killed By Hit-And-Run Driver on 101 Freeway In Thousand Oaks

THOUSAND OAKS (CBSLA.com) — Authorities are searching for a driver who struck and killed a man Tuesday morning on the northbound 101 Freeway in the Thousand Oaks area.

California Highway Patrol Officer Marco Marin says drivers called 911 at 7:17 a.m. to report an object wrapped in what appeared to be a blanket lying on the center median of the 101 Freeway, just north of Rancho Road. Responding officers found the body, described as a 68-year-old Hispanic man. His name was not released pending family notification.

According to CHP, investigators believe the victim was struck by a vehicle sometime Tuesday morning while he was attempting to cross the freeway. The vehicle, which may have been a Toyota, then left the scene, CHP said.

The left lane was shut down for four hours while CHP, the Ventura County Fire Department and Caltrans cleared the scene.

The collision is being investigated as a felony hit-and-run. Anyone with information should call CHP at 805-553-0800.
