Bus Driver, 1 More Critically Hurt In Special Needs School Bus Crash

LANCASTER (CBSLA.com) — A car collided with a school bus carrying special needs students in Lancaster, leaving the bus driver and another person critically injured, authorities said Tuesday.

The crash was reported around 8 a.m. at 20th Street East and East Lancaster Boulevard, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Paramedics transported the injured for hospital treatment, including several people who suffered minor injuries, fire officials said.

It was not immediately known if the second critically injured person was a student.

Investigators told CBS2's Kara Finnstrom the bus was equipped with seat belts, which may have had an impact on the severity of the injuries.

The circumstances of the crash were under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
