Uncle Arrested On Suspicion Of Killing 3 Relatives In Fontana Apartment

FONTANA (CBSLA.com) — Three people were killed and another person was injured after a gunman opened fire inside an apartment in Fontana.

Officers responded to the 14500 block of Village Drive around 3 a.m. for report of a shooting.

Upon their arrival, authorities encountered the 73-year-old suspect who threatened them with a gun at the Village Drive Apartments. He was subsequently arrested after a short standoff.

CBS2's Joy Benedict reported the suspect was related to the victims.

Paramedics pronounced two women and one man dead at the scene. Their identities are being withheld pending family notification.

The fourth victim was transported to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center for treatment of injuries sustained in the shooting. At this time, he remains listed in critical condition and is undergoing surgery.

Another woman hid during the shooting. She did not sustain any injuries.

Five young adults lived inside the apartment where the shooting took place. They were all first cousins.

Benedict reported the shooter claimed his nieces and nephews owed him money, which was his motive for shooting his three relatives.

The case remains under investigation.
