Shots Fired In Westlake District During Gang Investigation

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — About a dozen LAPD SWAT officers were seen gearing up after police say gang unit officers fired their guns during an investigation near James Wood Boulevard and South Lake Street.

Police set up a massive perimeter and were searching for at least one man and had several blocks sealed off Saturday night around 9 p.m. It's unclear if anyone was wounded.

Police aren't saying much more about what happened except that it's a very fluid situation.

One neighbor said his apartment building was surrounded. He spoke to his partner earlier who told him over the phone no one is allowed to get in or out of the building.

"He told me he heard shots fired. There was some concern that perhaps that the gunman could come inside our building to hide," he said. "Currently I already contacted our building manager to get the police access to the video surveillance cameras inside the building."
