Thick Mud Surrounds CBS2 News Van In Duarte
DUARTE (CBSLA.com) — Thick mud, sticks and other debris flowed from a hillside Friday morning in Duarte.
The mud flow engulfed our CBS2 News van around 3:30 a.m., as a storm cell hovered above the area.
Debris sifted over sandbags placed along the residential street while K-rails prevented additional thick mud from pouring into the road.
Authorities are patrolling the neighborhood to ensure the safety of residents.
CBS2's Kara Finnstrom reported the mud flow was a result of the San Gabriel Complex Fire, which charred the hillside in June, leaving the area in a vulnerable state.
KNX 1070's Jon Baird reported several residents have been asked to shelter in place until further notice.
At this time, no evacuation orders have been issued.
