ACTON ( — Many Acton residents were left wondering Monday whether they will ever receive their mail following a break-in at an Acton post office.

The break-in happened about 3:30 a.m. at the post office in the 3300 block of Smith Avenue, according to a deputy at the Palmdale Sheriff’s Station. The burglars drove away in two mail trucks.

The second truck was found along Escondido Canyon Road and Jones Canyon Road.

Authorities say five sets of key rings with master keys to several community mail boxes were taken, in addition to some residents’ mail.

Acton resident Gail Klein came to the post office Monday hoping to pick up a week’s worth of mail — only to be told it had been stolen.

“My mail is long gone now,” Klein said. “I don’t know where it will be.”

Other residents were left wondering if their mail and packages will ever arrive.

“I have a package that was supposed to be delivered today,” Acton resident Don Richardson said. “I wonder if it will show up.”

The post office says it plans to change the locks on hundreds of community mailboxes.
