Burbank Teen In Grave Condition After Road Debris Crashes Through Her Windshield On 5 Freeway

MISSION HILLS (CBSLA.com) —   Authorities say a 17-year-old Burbank teen is fighting for her life Friday after being injured by debris that crashed through her windshield on the Golden State (5) freeway.

The teen was driving in Mission Hills with two female friends, also teens from Burbank, when something -- believe to be a piece of metal -- crashed through her windshield and caused her to lose control of her 2008 Honda Accord.

While another teen in the car tried to gain control, the Accord swerved across the freeway and hit two more vehicles.

The two passengers had minor injuries, officials said.

The incident happened around 8:45 a.m. on the northbound 5 just south of San Fernando Mission Boulevard.

The teen who was gravely-injured was taken to Holy Cross Hospital, authorities said.

Last month, a La Habra teen was killed when debris crashed through his windshield on the 57 Freeway near Anaheim.Ethan Hawks' mother was driving when the debris crashed through the windshield and slashed his neck.
