Suspect In Officer-Involved Shooting In Anaheim Declared Dead
ANAHEIM (CBSLA.com) — An officer-involved shooting was reported in Anaheim Saturday evening and the suspect later succumbed to his injuries, police said.
The shooting occurred around 9 p.m. near the Riverside (91) Freeway and East Street, police said.
No officers were injured in the incident.
On Sunday, Anaheim Police and the CHP said the deceased intentionally rammed his vehicle into another on the freeway.
"The suspect vehicle, a 2003 Honda Pilot, was disabled after (its driver) intentionally rammed a Honda Accord on the freeway,' Anaheim Police Sgt. Daron Wyatt said. CHP officers said the man also tried to crash into another vehicle.
Anaheim police officers were assisting the CHP to look for the driver who fled.
Witnesses directed Anaheim Police to the courtyard of a home in the 1300 block of North East Street, where they contacted the suspect, a 29-year-old man.
There was some sort of a confrontation between the man and police, and an officer-involved shooting occurred, the sergeant said.
Anaheim police declined to explain what exact circumstances led to the shooting.
The deceased's name was withheld pending notification of next of kin.
The officer involved in the OIS was wearing a body camera that was activated during the shooting, according to police.
