90-Year-Old Man Attacked At Busy Culver City Mall

CULVER CITY (CBSLA.com) — Ninety-year-old Victor Toledo lives by himself, still drives and tries to get out of his Westchester house every day.

On Wednesday, he was eating lunch and reading the newspaper in the food court at the Westfield Culver City mall when a man approached him and asked for money. When he refused, "the guy walked around and grabbed me here threw me on the floor. And I screamed 'help, help, help,'" Toledo recalled.

The thief ripped Toledo's gold chains from around his neck and took his wallet, which contained $400, right out of his pocket.

Toledo had a large bruise on his leg from falling to the floor and an abrasion on his neck.

He said he feared for his life when he was on the floor and was afraid that the robber was going to stomp on his chest.

Culver City police said there is security video of the attacker, but only when he was running away. He is still on the loose.

Toledo's stepson said he can't believe his stepfather was attacked in a crowded food court in the middle of the day.

"If he can't go within a certain radius from home to his familiar places and get out of the house without fear of being preyed upon, that's really concerning," said stepson Mark Leonard.

CBS2's Kristine Lazar reached out to Westfield Culver City for comments, but her calls were not returned as of Thursday afternoon.
