Former USC Athletic Director Pat Haden Taken To Hospital After 'Episode Of Light-Headedness'

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Former USC athletic director Pat Haden was taken from the campus by ambulance to a hospital Tuesday after becoming light-headed.

Haden, 63, "had an episode of light-headedness," according to USC Sports Information Director Tim Tessalone. "He was transported to a hospital, is being checked, is alert and talkative."

The hospitalization is similar to two previous cases involving Haden, who was also taken from the campus by ambulance in February after a bout of light-headedness.

On Oct. 17, 2015, Haden became ill while on the sidelines during the USC-Notre Dame game in South Bend, Indiana.

In that instance, Haden knelt on one knee on the sideline moments before kickoff and had to be helped to the locker room. He was examined by team doctors and was treated briefly at an Indiana hospital before flying back to Los Angeles that night.

Haden retired as athletic director at the end of June, and has since been replaced by Lynn Swann. Haden, however, is continuing to work with the university to help guide the renovation of Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.

Haden became USC's athletic director in 2010, replacing Mike Garrett, who held the post for 17 years.

Haden, a former USC quarterback, had been serving on the university's Board of Trustees since 1991, but he resigned that post when he was named athletic director.
