Man Accused Of Going On Deadly Stabbing Rampage At Southern California Park

NORTH HOLLYWOOD (CBSLA.com) — Authorities say a man has been arrested after being accused of going on a deadly stabbing rampage at a Southern California park.

Police say they responded to the 11100 block of Victory Boulevard in North Hollywood Sunday just before 6:40 a.m.

When they arrived, they located a 61-year-old man suffering from multiple stab wounds, who was transported to a hospital.

While investigating, police say they then located a second stabbing victim at the park, they identified as Federico Vasquez Hernandez, 67, of North Hollywood, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

A preliminary investigation reveals that Hernandez was walking through the Vineland Recreation Center Park while gathering bottles and cans when police say he was confronted by the suspect, who's accused of stabbing him multiple times.

That's when police say the suspect then confronted a second man, whom he's also suspected of stabbing. That victim was said to be in serious, but stable condition.

The suspect was identified by police as 29-year-old James Medrano of North Hollywood.

Medrano was arrested and booked into the LAPD Valley Jail on suspicion of murder in connection with the death of Hernandez, and attempted murder of the second victim.

Anyone with additional information about this incident was asked to call LAPD Det. Dave Peteque at (818) 374-1934.
