Armed Man Holed Up Inside Pico Rivera Home

PICO RIVERA (CBSLA.com)   —   LA County Sheriff's Deputies have evacuated a Pico Rivera neighborhood following reports that a homeowner there was armed and refusing to come out.

Authorities said the armed man was in a standoff with SWAT.

The incident is playing out in a home on Dalewood Avenue and Telegraph Road.

CBS2's Tina Patel reported from the scene.

The incident began around 12:30, officials said.

Authorities told her just before 5 p.m. that they wanted people to move even further away from the home in the event shots were fired.

Sheriff's deputies are mostly tight-lipped about their operation and the suspect.

Special Enforcement Bureau has been joined by a Crisis Negotiation Team. They are both on scene hoping to have a peaceful resolution to the incident.

Neighbors told Patel the incident began around noon.  They also told her the suspect is in his late teens or early 20s and lives in the home with his mother.

The neighbors also told Patel they called police after the man started pointing a rifle at them.

When authorities arrived, the man had already gone back inside the home and locked himself in.

Police also told Patel the man's mother is inside the home but that she is not a hostage and also working with police on a peaceful resolution to the situation.

Over the scene around 10 p.m, Desmond Shaw in Sky9 reported SWAT was able to get a robot to the property with a telephone.
