Fontana Day Care Center Surrenders Its License After Death Of 1-Year-Old Boy

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A Fontana child care center has voluntarily surrendered its license as authorities investigate the death of a toddler that was placed in its care.

Authorities have been investigating Marriott Family Child Care since Oct. 5, when 18-month-old Deacon Morin was found not breathing after being put down for a nap. He died at the hospital a few days later.

Police confirmed to KCAL9's Nina Patel on Thursday that the child care center's license has been suspended.

Police on Tuesday arrested three of the child care center's workers-- Sagan Marriott, 27, Rebecca Lutz, 29, and 52-year-old Deborah Jimenez -- on suspicion of child endangerment.

Investigators say Marriott and Lutz waited until Jimenez came back to the center before they called 911 -- a delay that may have been a factor in the child's death.

Investigators say the child care center was licensed to care for only four infants at a time. But on the day Deacon stopped breathing, there were six infants and at least 12 other children present.

Police say Jimenez is also the owner of another childcare facility called Little Impressions Child Care, also known as Jimenez Family Child Care.

The three women have yet to be formally charged.
