Video Of Gunman In Jack In The Box Murder Released

MONTEREY PARK (CBSLA.com) — Authorities are seeking help in identifying a man caught on tape who they say killed 25-year-old Jack in the Box employee.

Video shows a masked gunman jumping the counter, then out of frame, Juan Vidal was fatally shot at point-blank range seconds later, an L.A. County Sheriff's spokesperson said.

The man is then seen on camera fleeing the restaurant in a getaway car in the 9200 block of Flair Drive in El Monte after the shooting on Oct. 21.

Investigators are stumped because the assailant did not take any cash, and they say the motive for the killing is a mystery.

Detectives are poring over numerous video angles taken from around the scene but having difficulty identifying the man because of the mask.

Vidal had just been certified at a trade school to become a pharmacist and wasn't planning to work at the Jack in the Box much longer.

"I don't know what sick person would take my son from me," his mother Mary Vidal said. "He was my life."

Vidal's family and authorities are asking anyone who might know anything to step forward.

"If somebody could say something, that'd be beautiful," Vidal's stepfather Frank Rivera said.  "It would change a lot of people's lives.  And I just hope he's caught,"
