Man Armed With Bat Paces Outside LASD Headquarters

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) — Authorities Tuesday were dealing with a man armed with a bat pacing back and forth near the Hall of Justice in downtown Los Angeles.

The unidentified man was first seen stalking along Spring Street between Aliso and Temple streets, according to the Sheriff's Information Bureau.

Sheriff's officials say the suspect was seen hitting signage and glass cases with a baseball bat at the Vermont/Athens Green Line Metro station. A man matching witnesses' descriptions later showed up outside the Hall of Justice, according to officials.

KNX 1070's Claudia Peschiutta reported she was briefly detained and then released near the scene of the standoff.

Los Angeles County Sheriff's headquarters is located at the Hall of Justice.

The man was peacefully taken into custody and will be given a mental health evaluation.
