Fireworks Seen Thrown From Truck In Suspected Arson

MISSION VIEJO (CBSLA) — Orange County fire officials are asking for the public's help in identifying a vehicle linked to an arson in Mission Viejo.

Surveillance video released by Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) shows a vehicle that investigators say was involved in the fire early Friday morning near Alicia Parkway and Jeronimo Road.

The vehicle is described as a four-door mid-sized pickup truck, light in color, and appears to have dark color fender wells and dark rims. Investigators say there is also distinctive lighting along the running board of the vehicle.

Video footage shows the truck driving slowly before stopping in front of the home, where fireworks are seen being thrown from the vehicle.

The fireworks explode and ignite nearby vegetation, which officials say created a fire with flames that reached more than 40 feet and threatened several homes.

Crews responded quickly and contained the flames to the vegetation area.

Anyone with information on the fire is asked to contact the Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-855-TIP-OCCS. Information is completely anonymous and the tipster's name will not be requested.

Crime Stoppers is offering a cash reward of up to $1,000 for information that leads to an arrest in this case.
