Elderly Man Missing, Woman Hurt In Mount Washington Mansion Fire

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com/AP) — Authorities say an elderly man is missing and a woman is hurt from a fire that tore through a hillside home in the Mount Washington area.

Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey said an 84-year-old man remained unaccounted for Friday.

Officials say a 74-year-old woman was in fair condition with smoke inhalation.

Twelve residents lived inside the mansion.

No other injuries were reported.

The fire was reported at 8:35 p.m. Thursday and continued to burn for three hours.

More than 125 firefighters were assigned to fight the blaze in the 9,100-square-foot home.

Firefighters were expected to remain on scene through the morning extinguishing hot spots and stabilizing the structure.

CBS2's Joy Benedict reported the fire damaged the integrity of the structure, making the investigation more complicated.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
