HEMET (CBSLA.com) —  Fallen Palm Springs police officer Lesley Zerebny’s hometown of Hemet gathered outside the high school where she graduated in 2007.

Zerebny was killed with fellow officer Jose “Gil” Vega on Oct. responding to a disturbance call Saturday in Palm Springs.

Her husband Zack, sitting next to their four-month-old baby girl Cora, couldn’t hold back tears and neither could officer Zerebny’s father.

“My new granddaughter, Cora, to hold her and realize that the way she’s going to find out about what an amazing, amazing young woman her mom was, is through what we can tell her,” David Kling said.

Her father is a retired highway patrolman and told the crowd he is proud she followed in his footsteps.

“I have absolutely zero regrets.”
