San Bernardino Girl Recounts Frightening Encounter With Sex Offender In Her Bedroom

SAN BERNARDINO (CBSLA.com) — A 12-year-old San Bernardino girl recounted her frightening encounter with a paroled sex offender in her bedroom.

She described waking up to a convicted sexual predator around 1 a.m. Thursday and "he just had his pants off and his underwear. Yeah, he was touching my face. I tried to smack his head down.

"I woke up to seeing him trying to close the window. His pants were all the way down, but his shirt was on," the victim recalled.

Police said Derek Fowler used a chair to stand on then broke into the girl's bedroom window.

"My mom woke up hearing a bang on the wall. She opened the door and told my dad to come in and check," the victim.

Her dad rushed in, found Fowler in the bedroom and held him down until police arrived.

Police said Fowler is a registered sex offender from Los Angeles with "an extensive criminal history and had been released early on felony probation for his most recent conviction," according to a press release issued by the San Bernardino Police Department.

The family says they want to move out of the neighborhood but do not have enough money.

In March, their older daughter was attacked while leaving the gym.
