Metro Expo Line Service Restored Following Deadly Crash In Downtown LA

DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A motorcyclist was fatally struck by a train in downtown Los Angeles, police said Monday.

The deadly crash unfolded around 1:30 a.m. in the area of Washington Boulevard and Flower Street.

Upon their arrival, authorities located a motorcycle overturned in the railroad tracks.

The motorcyclist's body came to rest about five blocks away.

Paramedics pronounced the victim dead at the scene. His identity is being withheld pending family notification.

A preliminary investigation revealed the Metro Expo Line continued down the tracks for about a mile and a half before it stopped.

CBS2's Mark Dunn reported the conductor did not realize he had struck anyone.

Police plan to review security video to try and make sense of the crash.

Service along the Expo Line remained closed during the investigation.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
