Mother Alleges Teen With Autism Was Shoved After Snapping Photos With iPad

NEWPORT BEACH (CBSLA.com) — Authorities say they're continuing to search for two people, one of which is accused of shoving a teen with autism after he snapped photos of the pair on his iPad.

Police in Newport Beach said the incident was reported about 7:25 p.m. on Sept. 17, in the 1800 block of Balboa Boulevard.

When police arrived, they learned that the 16-year-old was seated in the backseat of a vehicle, and was using his iPad to take photos of the area.

Two passersby, according to police, became upset that they were photographed, and allegedly yelled at the boy.

The female subject, captured in an image, is also accused of then pushing the teen multiple times.

At the time, the teen's mother was inside the home, while two adult companions were seated outside the home.

The mother attempted to intervene, explaining that her son has autism and entertains himself by taking pictures with the iPad.

Police were called to the scene, but the couple had left at that point.

Anyone with additional information about this case was asked to call Det. Rick Henry at (949) 644-3790.
