Man Surrenders After 4-Hour Standoff At Canoga Park Apartment Complex

CANOGA PARK (CBSLA.com) — Police Thursday took a man into custody after a four and-a-half hour standoff at an apartment complex in the Canoga Park area.

Officers went to the 7500 block of Vassar Avenue about 11:20 a.m. on a report that a man was near the outdoor pool, armed with an unknown object.

The man did not cooperate with officers and a SWAT team and crisis negotiators were sent to the scene and the standoff was continuing early Thursday afternoon, police said.

The man was holding a pool chair over his head as SWAT negotiators worked to resolve the standoff; he was later taken into custody.
