Man Shot To Death Outside Woodland Hills Home While Awaiting Pizza Delivery

WOODLAND HILLS (CBSLA.com) — Homicide detectives Wednesday investigated a deadly shooting in an upscale Woodland Hills neighborhood.

Gunshots were reported around midnight in the 4900 block of Medina Drive, according to police. Paramedics responding to the home pronounced 37-year-old Hovik Krboyan dead at the scene.

The man's wife and 9-year-old daughter were inside the house when the shooting occurred, but did not sustain any injuries.

CBS2's Kara Finnstrom reported the victim was waiting for a pizza to be delivered to his home when the shooting occurred. When the doorbell rang, he went outside assuming the food had arrived, but instead encountered a familiar man who fired several rounds at him.

"After examining the crime scene, it appears the victim knew his assailants," LAPD Capt. Paul Vernon said. "We aren't sure yet what's behind this man's shooting, but cases like this often stem from business or domestic disputes."

A neighbor seconded that theory.

"I don't think it was random," said the neighbor, who asked not to be identified. "It's not an area for random crime."

Detectives have not yet released a description of the gunman or gunmen. Police said they believe there were between two and four people involved in the shooting.

The pizza delivery man was not involved in the shooting.

Neighbors told KCAL9's Randy Paige the victim's family moved into the neighborhood last year and mostly kept to themselves.

Police said they will try to obtain security footage of the crime. They also urged the public to come forward with any information on the crime.

"Tips from acquaintances of the victim often break cases like these," Vernon added. "So we're hoping some person in-the-know might come forward soon and point us in the right direction."

Anyone with information about this case has been urged to contact LAPD's Valley Bureau Homicide Unit at (818) 374-1943.
