Beverly Center Mural Features Girl Lifting Skirt Towards Mall Shoppers

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — One of L.A.'s most popular malls is getting a very revealing makeover.

A 70-foot-tall mural of a woman lifting up her skirt graces the corner of Beverly Center at La Cienega and Third Street as part of the mall's ongoing art program.

"Girl Lifting Skirt 2" by Geoff McFetridge is the Center's first exterior artwork and "evokes the open and civic spirit of Beverly Center's reimagining – itself, a kind of lifting of skirts", according to a mall spokesperson.

Beverly Center's new artwork - which is part of a program curated by Jenelle Porter in association with the Hammer Museum - comes as the mall undergoes a a $500 million renovation effort.

"The addition of large-scale exterior artworks will link inside and out, engaging and inviting both those who shop at Beverly Center and those passing by," said Porter. "The interior artworks will give visitors a chance to interact with art in non-conventional ways - that is, the sculptural installations invite you to sit down."

Some Angelenos, however, appeared to be confused about the image.
