Deputies Shoot Armed Man In Lomita; Woman Detained

LOMITA (CBSLA.com) — Homicide detectives Friday investigated the circumstances surrounding a deputy-involved shooting that occurred in Lomita.

The shooting unfolded around 6 p.m. Thursday in the 2300 block of Pacific Coast Highway, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

A preliminary investigation revealed deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle and the driver failed to yield to authorities.

The suspect drove into a parking lot of a business, lost control of his vehicle and subsequently crashed into a parked car.

The driver exited the vehicle, brandished a handgun and ran into a liquor store.

Seconds later, the man emerged from the liquor store and shot at the deputies.

Deputies returned fire, striking the 30-year-old suspect.

Paramedics transported him to a hospital for treatment of multiple gunshot wounds. He is expected to survive his injuries, hospital officials said.

No deputies sustained injuries from the shooting.

A 31-year-old woman was detained after she ran from the vehicle.

Detectives recovered the suspect's handgun at the scene.
