Refrigerator Stolen From Palm Springs Home

PALM SPRINGS (CBSLA.com) — Police have arrested three people and are searching for a fourth man suspected of stealing a refrigerator, among other items, from a Palm Springs home.

Four people were seen at 12:54 a.m. loading a fridge into a trailer attached to their Chevrolet Suburban in the 500 block of Burton Way, Palm Springs police Lt. Mike Kovaleff said. The SUV drove off without lights on, Kovaleff said, and was followed by Palm Springs police officers.

About a minute after officers began following the suspects, the SUV stopped and the driver and front passenger ran from the vehicle, while two other passengers in the back seat were arrested without incident, police said.

In addition to the stolen refrigerator in the trailer, live ammunition and a replica handgun were found in the glove compartment, Kovaleff said.

The front seat passenger was found about a half-hour later after he climbed over a fence and into the patio area of a nearby home, Kovaleff said. He was overpowered by a police dog and then taken to a hospital for injuries sustained during his apprehension.

Police searched for the driver until 4:15 a.m., with their efforts including the deployment of a California Highway Patrol helicopter and a sheriff's deputy's bloodhound.

The driver was described as black, about 25 to 30 years old, 6 feet tall, 220 pounds, with shoulder-length dreadlocks. He was last seen wearing a white T-shirt.

Anyone with information on the suspect can call the Palm Springs Police Department at (760) 323-8116.
