Rams Say They Have Not Heard From Troubled Running Back Tre Mason

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com/AP) — As the Rams finalize their roster for Monday's season-opener against the 49ers, the team says it still has not heard from running back Tre Mason.

Mason, 23, did not report to Rams training camp this summer following a March arrest in Florida in which he was charged with resisting arrest without violence, reckless driving, possessing less than 20 grams of cannabis and failure to register a vehicle. It was just one of many run-ins Mason has reportedly had with police during the off-season.

In that March incident, Mason allegedly refused officers' orders to get out of his Porsche sports car after he was pulled over for going more than twice the speed limit in a 35-mile-per-hour zone along a beachside road, according to a police report. He was then subdued with a stun gun twice after failing to cooperate with the officers, police said.

When Mason did not show up to the team's training camp this summer, he was placed on the team's reserve/did not report list. Mason won't be paid while he's on the list. He's eligible to return to the team through the tenth week of the season, AL.com reported. After that point, he wouldn't be eligible to play in the 2016 season.

Mason made his debut with the Rams in 2014, rushing for 765 yards and 4 touchdowns as a rookie. Mason saw a reduction in action last season after the Rams drafted Todd Gurley, but he was expected to remain with the team this season in a reserve role.

Coach Jeff Fisher, however, said this weekend he still hasn't heard from the running back.

"The organization's position, including the league and the players' association, is to take care of him and help him to get the help that he needs to get through this life crisis that he's having," Fisher said.

He said the Rams have made contact with Mason's family, but still haven't spoken directly to the troubled running back.

Late last month, TMZ obtained dashcam footage of an incident with police in which Mason was cited for riding an ATV in a residential Palm Beach, Fla. neighborhood.

In the video, Mason's mother tells the officers that her son is suffering from football-related brain injuries. She said she doesn't believe Mason should play football anymore.

"Tre's not himself at all," she told officers.
