Singer Chris Brown Released From Jail Following Assault Allegation
TARZANA (CBSLA.com) — Singer Chris Brown was free on bail Wednesday after allegedly confronting a woman with a gun at his home in Tarzana.
Brown was released from prison around 11 p.m. Tuesday after posting $250,000 bail, according to police records.
His whereabouts, however, were unknown.
Brown's long-time attorney, Mark Geragos, responded to the allegations made against his client on Twitter Wednesday morning.
The singer is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 20 at 8:30 a.m. in downtown Los Angeles.
Brown was arrested Tuesday afternoon on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon after allegedly threatening a woman with a gun at his home during a party.
The incident unfolded when Miss California Regional 2016 Baylee Curran refused to sign a nondisclosure agreement after viewing the singer's diamond necklace, according to Entertainment Tonight.
CBS News has confirmed Curran has a 2013 complaint filed against her alleging that she was involved with grand larceny at the Plaza Hotel in New York City. It remains unclear what the current status of that complaint is.
Police surrounded the multi-million dollar mansion, urging Brown to speak with authorities about the incident for several hours.
He spoke out on Instagram saying he would stay in his home until officers entered with a search warrant.
Brown eventually emerged from his home around 2:30 p.m. to speak with authorities.
He later removed the videos from his Instagram account, and instead posted a supportive message from Ray J about the incident.
The incident does not mark the Grammy-winning singer's first run-in with law enforcement.
Brown spent six years on probation after pleading guilty to attacking his then-girlfriend Rihanna in 2009.
In 2015, he completed his probation in that case.
The singer struck a man outside of a Washington, D.C., hotel and was charged with misdemeanor assault in 2013. The singer was ordered into rehab but was dismissed from the facility for violating its rules.
