Man With Ax Holed Up At Carson Car Wash Gives Up

CARSON (CBSLA.com) — A man armed with an ax was barricaded at a Carson car wash Tuesday, and eventually gave up shortly before 7 p.m. and was taken into custody, authorities said.

Negotiators for several hours were trying to get him to surrender, said Deputy Crystal Hernandez of the Sheriff's Headquarter Bureau.

Carson Station deputies were first sent to the business at Alondra and Avalon boulevards at 12:34 p.m. to investigate reports of an armed man and vandalism, said Hernandez.

The suspect had gotten into a dispute with an employee of the business and had brandished an ax, she said.

The man was believed to be a former employee of the car wash.

Authorities closed Avalon Boulevard from Redondo Beach Boulevard to Gardena Boulevard, and Special Enforcement Bureau deputies were sent to the scene.

No one else was in the building with the suspect, she said.
