Pokemon Players Battle For Championship

SAN FRANCISCO (CBSLA.com) — Long before the Pokemon app, there was just Pokemon.

Sunday was the last day of competition for the Pokemon world championships.

Hundreds of players from thirty countries are in San Francisco. It's by invitation only. In the end, there will be six winners from both the card and video game competitions and from different age levels.
"I was nervous and stressed a lot," said Pokemon player Sanora Souphommanychanh, 8. "It's a lot of pressure thinking what to do because the opponent is a really good person and they always have all these great pokemon."

A total of half a million dollars worth of prizes were handed out Sunday, including scholarships, travel and Pokemon cards.
