Mosquitoes, Birds In Several San Gabriel Valley Cities Test Positive For West Nile

WEST COVINA (AP) — Authorities say West Nile virus has been detected in mosquitoes and birds throughout the San Gabriel Valley east of Los Angeles.

The valley's Mosquito and Vector Control District said Monday that 23 West Nile virus-positive mosquito samples have been collected in Arcadia, Azusa, Pomona, San Gabriel and West Covina.

Five virus-positive dead birds were found in Altadena, Monrovia, Temple City and Glendora.

Authorities urge the public to help prevent mosquito breeding by getting rid of stagnant water in which mosquitoes lay eggs. People should wear mosquito repellent or protective clothing and keep screens on doors and windows.
