Video May Help Catch Suspect In 2 Attempted Kidnappings

GLENDALE (CBSLA.com) — Detectives Thursday searched for a would-be kidnapper who targeted two young children in Glendale.

The first incident took place shortly after 5 p.m. Wednesday, at the intersection of Chevy Chase Drive and Adams Street, when a suspect attempted to snatch a stroller carrying an infant child from it's mother.

"The child was still strapped in," said Sgt. Robert William. "The suspect did try to unbuckle the child from the stroller."

Police said the woman was able to get her baby back from the suspect who then fled from the area.

About 20 minutes later, an 8-year-old called 911 to report that someone had attempted to steal his 2-year-old brother near John Marshall Elementary School.

The mother was standing nearby and was able to prevent the kidnapper from taking her son.

The suspect fled from the area in a small silver sedan that has a California license plate that starts with "7HY."

Detectives believe the suspect is connected to both incidents.

The suspect has been described as a woman wearing heavy winter clothing or a man dressed as a woman with a thin beard.

Anyone with information regarding either incident has been urged to contact the Glendale Police Department at (818) 548-4911.
