Police In Arcadia Hunt Hit-And-Run Driver That Left 72-Year-Old Man In Critical Condition

ARCADIA (CBSLA.com) —  Police in Arcadia are hoping the public can lead them to a hit-and-run driver who critically injured a senior citizen Thursday.

The driver hit the pedestrian around 7:20 a.m. in the 600 block of Camino Real.

The unidentified driver caused serious injury to the pedestrian and fled without rendering aid, police said.

A preliminary investigation revealed the suspect vehicle was traveling west on Camino Real Avenue when it struck a pedestrian in the street.

After hitting the pedestrian, the vehicle stopped briefly near the intersection of Camino Real Avenue and Baldwin Avenue.

Witnesses said the driver got out, walked around his vehicle, and ultimately got back into his car and fled south on Baldwin.

A witness in the area provided the following description of the suspect and the vehicle to authorities.

KCAL9's Peter Daut said police are looking for a newer, white, four-door, Mercedes-Benz with paper plates.

He also reported the victim was hit steps away from his home.

The driver was described as a male Asian, about 70, with gray hair and clean shaved. He was wearing a short-sleeved shirt and slacks.

Paramedics from the Arcadia Fire Department took the victim, later identified as Roop Garg, 72, of Arcadia, to Huntington Memorial Hospital. Garg is listed in critical condition.

Late Thursday, Arcadia Police confirmed to CBS2 and KCAL9 that a vehicle matching the description of the suspect's car was found in the parking lot of a LA Fitness in Monterey Park. The driver is still at-large.

There is no word on how police found the vehicle.

Anyone with information on this incident is encouraged to contact the Arcadia Police Department at (626) 574-5156.
