$1.25M Arrest Warrant Issued For Assault, Mayhem Suspect

SAN PEDRO (CBSLA.com) — A 19-year-old man police say stabbed a woman and nearly gouged out a man's eye is at large Thursday after escaping a courthouse, where he was facing two separate charges of felony assault.

Abel Munguia, who had been out on bail, appeared in court Wednesday to face a judge in two separate felony charges of assault with a deadly weapon and mayhem. After being advised of his charges, Munguia fled the courthouse, then cut off his electronic monitoring bracelet and left it in the city of Carson, according to Los Angeles police officials.

A $1.25 million warrant has been issued for his arrest, police said.

Munguia was arrested on Dec. 8, 2015 on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon after police say he stabbed a 20-year-old woman in the back. More recently, Munguia was arrested on Aug. 3 for mayhem, in which he nearly gouged out the eye of a 50-year-old man.

Police say Munguia is considered to be very dangerous. Anyone with information about his whereabouts can call Detective Patty Batts at (310) 726-7861.
